After a series of leaks last year, Dell has today introduced an iterative upgrade for its flagship ultrabook — the XPS 13. The new model comes with a slightly refreshed, lighter design and sort of fixes the lineup’s biggest annoyance by repositioning the webcam from the lower left corner to the middle of the bottom bezel.

In addition to that, the XPS 13 has a new gold and white scheme which was revealed in a leak a few weeks. There aren’t any substantial aesthetic revamps, unfortunately. Although the new XPS 13 does adopt the design from its convertible sibling, the XPS 13 2-in-1. As a result, it’s now a hair thinner measuring at 0.46-inches instead of 0.6 and lighter by roughly 0.2 pounds.

There’s a new thermal system as well which houses two Heat pipes, two fans and a shield between the heat spreader and the keyboard for preventing it from getting too hot. It also employs the GORE Thermal Insulation which constantly tries to funnel the heat out of the computer for further avoiding any overheating issues.

With the new XPS 13, Dell is also leaving all the traditional Ports behind and wholeheartedly hopping the USB Type-C bandwagon. The XPS 13 replaces the standard USB-A ports with three USB-C ones, two of which are Thunderbolt 3 ports. More importantly, a MicroSD card reader takes place of the SD card reader which could be a deal breaker for some but I guess it’s time everyone accepts the dongle life.

The laptop maker has also refreshed the palm rest with a new woven texture. To ensure your notebook doesn’t lose its original shine too soon, Dell has made sure the material can be easily cleaned if you accidentally drop something like mustard on it. You’ll be only able to wipe the stains off within a week, though, after which they can become permanent.

Under the hood, the XPS 13 comes with the usual trappings of any 2018 laptop. This includes an option between a 1080p or 4K display, i5 or i7 8th-gen Intel processors, up to 16GB of RAM, 19/11 hours of battery life depending on the variant, support for Windows Hello, and 1TB of storage. Like previous generations, it too has an ‘InfinityEdge’ display with 4mm borders resulting in an 80.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. Overall, the XPS 13 is merely 302mm (11.9 inches) wide in spite of sporting a 13.3-inch display panel. The new model goes on sale today, with pricing starting at $1,000.
