Holo is the Most Fun AR Smartphone App I’ve Come Across

Ever since the Pokemon Go revolution, developers have been aggressively investing in apps powered by a series of Augmented Reality features. Whether it’s morphing your selfies into creatures or trying out furniture before making the final purchase, AR has consistently proved its prowess over others. However, I didn’t realize how powerful AR can become until I came across an app called “Holo”.

Holo is a camera app that uses Augmented Reality to project 3D objects such as a tiger or a playful dog or Spiderman into the real world. The app lets you capture these scenes in real-time, hence you can position the camera according to your needs and produce fun videos or photos. Holo comes with a ton of objects you can experiment with including movie characters, celebrities, athletes, musicians, animals, comedians, and more. Once done, the app allows you to save these recordings in normal formats and share with everyone else.

Moreover, while shooting, you can modify the character’s size and position on a granular level for creating a more natural-looking shot. Additionally, there’s a store where you can download more objects in a jiffy and the best part is that everything’s free as of now. Most of these objects are animated and come with audio as well which should come handy if you’re recording a video. Unlike other similar alternatives, Holo works stupendously and doesn’t bog down your phone while doing it. The virtual Holograms turn out exceedingly realistic and don’t look like they’ve been squeezed into the environment.

Holo isn’t perfect as yet. For starters, it doesn’t properly interact with walls and surfaces. In addition to that, the characters don’t move based on your phone’s viewfinder. You’ve to manually place them every time. Perhaps, when Google and Apple’s AR platforms (There’s a Google Tango version as well) become more widespread, these type of apps will be more coherent. Until then, Holo is certainly an app you should try. It’s available for free on both iOS and Android.
