HTC’s Squeezable Phone, U11 is Launching in India on June 16th

After exactly a month of its original announcement, the struggling Taiwanese smartphone OEM, HTC, is gearing up to launch its flagship handset – the HTC U11 in India this Friday. The company has sent out press invites and will be unveiling the device at a conference held in the country’s capital, New Delhi. While there are no rumors currently regarding the price, it is expected to cost somewhere north of Rs 50,000. However, despite that, competing against phones like the LG G6 and the upcoming OnePlus 5 will be quite a herculean task.

The Focus this time around has been on the “Squeeze” functionality that lets users squeeze the metal borders of the smartphone to access several features such as launching the camera, turning on the flashlight and other related functions. The HTC U11 also touts a camera that boasts of an industry leading DXOMark score of 90. It comes equipped with a 5.5-inch QHD display and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 coupled with a 4GB of RAM, Android Nougat for software, microSD card support and a 3000mAh battery. Storage options include 64GB of onboard storage with select regions getting 128GB as well.

HTC has baked in multiple digital assistants that can be woken up with the Dual Wake word technology. Until now users could use only one assistant at a time but the dual wake word will let users invoke either Alexa or Google Assistant. The feature is, however, restricted to the UK, US and Germany. Apart from the Assistant and Alexa, HTC has also fine-tuned their Sense companion. With the update, Sense will actively take a look at your calendar and remind you to charge the battery before heading out.

HTC U11 also joins the IP67 Bandwagon and is thus dust and water resistant. The optic arrangements include a 12-Megapixel sensor with faster auto focus, f1.7 and HDR Boost feature. The Acoustic focus is yet another new feature that HTC has introduced with the U11. What this feature does is that it automatically increased the audio associated with the video when one tries to zoom in thus simulating the real world scenario. The squeezable metal periphery can be programmed for any of your favorite apps and functions thus allowing one to access selected features without using the touchscreen.

HTC has also launched an app that will let users configure the squeeze to any of the other third party apps without an update from the app publisher. The HTC U11 follows the footsteps of the U Ultra and ditches the 3.5mm headphone and instead comes bundled wit HTC USonic USB-C earphones with improvised noise control feature. HTC U11 is also equipped with BoomSound speakers.
