Dual-cab utes have come quite a far from their humble beginnings as the simplest of work vehicles.

They’re almost identical twins with the identical 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine underneath, producing 140 kW of power.

The two models are now also available with the 1.9-litre engine that has 350Nm and 110kW.

Its Navara has an 2.3-litre twin-turbo engine producing 140kW power. It’s also available with one-turbo versions of the engine that produces the power of 110kW, and 403Nm.

SsangYong Musso, Mitsubishi Triton

Both of these budget-friendly Utes produce 133kW with their turbo-diesel engine.

The engine inside the Triton is one that is 2.4-litre turbo-diesel. In contrast, the Musso comes with the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel.

The Triton is also available with an naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre petrol engine producing 194Nm and 94kW.

GWM Ute (120kW)

The brand new GWMUte is a massive improvement over the unwieldy Steed however, it’s not quite on par with the top brands in terms of performance.

With 120kW of power thanks to the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine The Ute ranks on the bottom of the list.
