As part of the Los Angeles Motor Show two thousand nineteen, a “charged” Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 2020 was presented to the public. It differs from the standard version of the crossover both in a different exterior and interior decor, and in a more productive technical “stuffing”.

The interior of the “charged” modification has received a special decor (as in the “junior” AMG 53), and the driver is offered new graphics of a virtual instrument cluster and a steering wheel with a truncated rim. Plus, the Germans have expanded the functionality of the MBUX multimedia system by including the AMG Track Pace onboard telemetry function in its arsenal.

Like many other modern AMG models, the new body of the 2020 Mercedes-AMG 63 GLE is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 engine with two turbines and a function of half-cylinder shutdown at low loads. Its output reaches 571 hp. and 750 Nm, however, a more powerful version with the letter “S” is traditionally offered for the model, in which this unit produces 612 forces and 850 Nm of torque.

It works in conjunction with a nine-speed automatic AMG Speedshift TCT 9G, plus the car is equipped with 4Matic + all-wheel drive, which by default transmits all the torque to the rear axle, and the front is connected as needed, depending on road conditions and / or the selected driving mode. There are six of the latter (Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Individual, Trail and Sand), and the top-end GLE 63 S additionally has the most extreme “Race” preset.

It is reported that from zero to hundreds of “sixty-third” accelerates in 4.0 seconds, and its maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h (when ordering AMG Driver’s Package – at 280 km / h). The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S W167 variant takes the first hundred in 3.8 seconds. and by default has a collar weakened to 280 kilometers per hour.

Note that the Germans also equipped the “charged” crossover with a hybrid add-on in the form of the EQ Boost system. The latter is a starter-generator located on the “tail” of the crankshaft, powered by a 48-volt electrical system and develops 22 hp. (250 Nm). This motor helps the internal combustion engine in the first seconds of acceleration, and also acts as a “start-stop” system.

Among other technical features of the 2020 Mercedes GLE 63 AMG, it is worth noting the AMG Ride Control + air suspension, which in sport mode lowers the ground clearance by 10 mm, and in off-road mode, on the contrary, raises it by 55 mm. The AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active anti-roll bars is also available as an option.

Plus, the “charged” SUV was equipped with more efficient brakes, with six-piston calipers with a fixed caliper and 400-mm discs installed in the front, and single-piston calipers with a floating caliper and 370-mm discs at the rear. For a surcharge, a car can even be ordered with carbon-ceramic mechanisms.
