The compact crossover Skoda Yeti was produced from 2009 to 2017, and in September of the thirteenth the Czechs brought to the market a restyled version of the model, which additionally acquired an all-terrain version of the Outdoor.

In the secondary market, a used Skoda Yeti remains a rather controversial car. And if the first owner did not eliminate the main problems and shortcomings of the car, then further repairs can be expensive. What minutes should a potential buyer pay attention to?

Engine problems

Initially, the crossover was equipped with turbocharged gasoline units with a volume of 1.2 and 1.8 liters. After restyling, the lineup was supplemented by a diesel 2.0-liter TDI, and the 1.2-liter turbo Engine was replaced with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine.

The 2.0 TDI engine remains the most reliable and unpretentious to the quality of Russian fuel, but such a modification is extremely rare in the secondary market. The rest of the motors have brought many problems to their owners after the first 50,000 km.

The 1.2-liter TSI petrol on the Skoda Yeti came with a weak timing chain, which stretched and failed after the first 45,000 km. When buying a car with such a motor, it is necessary to clarify when the timing belt was reinstalled. The stretch of the chain is immediately noticeable due to the fact that the car is intended for European roads, the ECU works quickly. The “Check Engine” lights up on the tidy, the power drops sharply.

On cars with a 1.8-liter engine, problems with the timing were not observed, but candles are constantly coking due to poor-quality fuel, there is a defect in the ignition coil.

Already in 2011, the Russian owners of Yeti made a disappointing conclusion: the crossover is not intended for use during a harsh winter. The low-powered 1.2-liter and naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engines that replaced it start poorly and lose traction during frosts.

Skoda Yeti was equipped with different gearboxes, among which there were no problems only with a manual 5-speed MPP paired with a 1.8 TSI. Due to the high dynamics of the motor, the flywheel often fails, the clutch and shaft bearings suffer. Therefore, when choosing a Yeti with mileage on the secondary, it is necessary to take into account the control mode that the owner used on such a model.

The DSG-7 robotic gearbox works equally badly not only on the Skoda Yeti, and on many other models of the VAG concern, where it was installed. Buying a car on a secondary with such a box is a huge risk and a lottery.

Fuel pump

When buying a Skoda Yeti with mileage, you need not just look, but carry out a complete diagnosis of the fuel system and pump. The pump remains the weakest point for all crossover modifications, regardless of engine type and year of manufacture. The first problems start after 20,000 mileage.

At the same time, drivers notice oil overruns. If there was no major engine overhaul on a five-year-old car, no repairs and replacement of parts of the piston group were carried out, you need to prepare for the fact that such a defect will have to be eliminated on your own.

Turbine

The atmospheric engine on a used Skoda Yeti is more reliable than turbocharged units, which got a very “delicate” turbocharger. Constant problems: breakdown of the pressurization system and leaking oil seals.

The first Yeti suffered from a frankly poor body finish, and today there are practically no cars left on which the original ten-year-old enamel has been preserved. Since 2015, the quality of the paintwork has improved several times, but on the cars of the first batches, due to poor coating, corrosion often developed along the bottom, in the area of ​​the wheel arches, sills and trunk.
