LIV Golf Targeting New Players as Monahan Makes a Move on OWGR Decision

After securing a television deal in the U.S. last week, Liv Golf has found its way back in the headlines quite often this week.

First, the rumor mill has fired back up, but it appears that not as big of names from the Pga Tour are currently churning through it.

After LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman said that they would be looking to add around seven golfers for its 2023 season, no new names have been announced for months.

There was talk of Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, and Mito Pereira, but those either were shot down (in Schauffele and Cantlay’s case) or haven’t yet come to fruition.

Now, there’s talk that a PGA Tour pro could be LIV-bound as soon as this week.

So far, the only withdrawal from the Farmers Insurance Open is John Huh, a 32-year-old who has one win on the PGA Tour 11 years ago.

Also, Sebastian Munoz has committed to the Saudi International, also throwing him square into the rumor mill that it may be a precursor to joining LIV.

Monahan and Pelley Recuse Themselves from OWGR Decision

It had also been expected that the Official World Golf Ranking will make a decision on whether LIV will be eligible to earn ranking points prior to the series teeing off next month.

DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley confirmed today that he and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan have recused themselves from voting on this measure, following the advice of legal counsel.

LIV partnered with the dormant MENA Tour in hopes to get the ranking points, but concerns from the OWGR have included LIV’s 54-hole format, its tournaments having no cuts, and there being no qualifying school process to enter LIV tournaments.
