As has been the case for much of the past few months, the specter of LIV Golf is hanging over the Genesis Scottish Open this week—and perhaps more so than usual.
You see, this is the first event of the “strategic alliance” between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour that has upped the prestige of this event by making it a part of both series instead of just the European-based tour.

It’s also taking place without many golfers from the LIV Tour, who just wrapped up their second event this past weekend in Portland, Oregon.
Despite their lack of presence, it was still a hot topic at Tuesday’s press conference. Billy Horschel, who has won on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tours, was pointed in his criticism of one particular aspect of the golfers who have jumped to the rival series.
Horschel explained:
“I don’t fault anyone for going to play the LIV tour. I don’t have any ill will for anyone going to play the LIV tour. I have ill will towards the comments that they’ve made.”
“There’s a lot of guys that are hypocrites, that aren’t telling the truth, that are lying about some things, that I, just, I can’t stand to sit here anymore and be diplomatic about it, as I have been in the past. I’m not seeing my family for five weeks but that is what my wife and I decided. Am I crying about it? No. I’m living my dream of trying to play golf professionally and support my family financially.”
Horschel doesn’t believe that many of the LIV golfers would be able to play the full LIV tour and play in the 15 PGA Tour events needed to maintain their standing on the main golf tour in the world.
Horschel stated:
“Those guys made their bed. They say that’s what they want to do. So just leave us alone. Honestly.”
