If you’ve watched him play throughout his career, there’s really not a lot to dislike about Rory McIlroy. He’s a great golfer, a stand-up guy, and just has a great personality. But if there’s anything to complain about, it’s his taste in pizza.
In recent years, Rory has really been focusing on his health and looks to be in great shape for a player now into his 30s. He’s able to keep up with all of the young guns on the PGA TOUR still and compete at the highest level. But even with Rory watching his health and constantly trying to build muscle, he’s bound to have some cheat days, especially in the time of a pandemic.
A hot mic this week at the Payne’s Valley Cup this week caught Rory talking with Justin Thomas about how they handle those cheat days. In the conversation, Thomas brings up that they need some more pizza there. That’s when Rory identifies his favorite pizza and his order. The answer is definitely going to surprise you.

Here’s how the conversation went. Thomas starts by saying: “We need more pizza.” Rory responds with: “I’ll tell you what, we’re on this big Domino’s kick recently. It’s so good. If you don’t know what the really good local pizza place is, Domino’s is like, solid.” Thomas continues: “You know what you’re going to get. Do you guys get the same pizza or change it up?” And Rory ends it with this: “I get the same. I get the deluxe, but I go with extra sausage, extra whatever.”
That’s right, Rory McIlroy’s favorite pizza is Domino’s, the same Domino’s where all broke college kids get their pizza from. To be fair, Domino’s does have some really good crust but to say that it’s “solid” is a bit of a reach. From Rory’s perspective though, he’s from Northern Ireland and lives in Florida and there’s not a lot of good pizza there so maybe he just needs some more experience.

It’s funny to see such a human side to these mega players on the PGA TOUR and how the fans react to such bold opinions. For Rory’s sake, I hope he’s able to find some better pizza while he’s in the U.S. and then he’ll get some fans off his back for his Domino’s fandom.
