BOOM: Justin Thomas Wins the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Classic

Justin Thomas gets the win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Classic, just a few weeks after giving away the Workday Charity Open.

Justin Thomas was very upset with himself a few weeks ago after giving up a 3-stroke lead with 3 holes to play. He said there was “no excuse” for melting down, and knew he should have won. He played fantastic golf, and took advantage of good breaks. His drive on 15 was one of the luckiest shots I’ve ever seen, and he didn’t waste it, as he made birdie. He had caddie veteran Bones on the bag, which will also happen next week for the PGA. With this victory, Justin has once again become the No. 1 golfer in the world for the first time since 2018.

Brooks Koepka looked like he was ready to win heading into the back 9. After grabbing the solo-lead, a bogey on the Par 5, 16th seemed to dim any chance to win. But a 40 foot BOMB on 17 put him just 1 shot back heading into his last hole. But his chances of winning sunk to the bottom of the 18th hole pond as his tee shot found the water. His game looks complete, and his slight adjustment of opening his stance at the beginning of the week paid huge dividends. His fantastic form shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the year’s first major is next week. He will be the 2-time defending champ in San Francisco.

Rickie Fowler struggled on Sunday. He entered the round with a real chance to win, but a final round of +3 put him quickly out of contention. With as much talent as he has, Rickie seems to struggle heavily on the weekends. He’ll need to get that monkey off his back if he has any hopes of winning next week at the PGA.

World’s Top Player Finishes

Jon Rahm – T52

Rory McIlroy T47

Dustin Johnson – T12

Jason Day – T6

Webb Simpson – T12

The first major of the year is next week, as the boys will travel to San Francisco for the PGA Championship. A lot of big names playing really good golf, should be awesome!
