BETS: Matchups, Faders, Straight Up Winners, & More // Rocket Mortgage Classic

Other than the fact that my winner pick in Brooks Koepka was canceled due to him withdrawing from the tournament due to his caddy having COVID-19, we did great last week in the betting game. My best bet on the Pin High Podcast, and on the blog was Max Homa over Harry Higgs, which won despite both of them missing the cut.

Bryson DeChambeau was also a winner over Rory McIlroy. It was unfortunate though that Abraham Ancer was one shot off of finishing Top 10 and hitting a +275 winner for us. Let’s get into a much less deep field at the Rocket Mortgage.

To Win The Rocket Mortgage Classic: Viktor Hovland (+2000)

This is it. This is the week that the Puerto Rico Curse ends. Since it became a tournament, no winner of the Puerto Rico Open has won a tournament after the fact, Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau being two of them (I know, Hovland only won it this year).

Viktor Hovland has 3 straight Top 25 finishes since the return from the break, he led the Traveler’s field in SG: Tee to green and was third in SG: approach, and the only thing that he needs to get going is the putter. I feel the mojo this week with Viktor.

To Finish Top 10: Tony Finau (+225)

I’m rolling with the Puerto Rico curse ending mojo. I had this gut feeling today when I saw Tony Finau’s name that he was going to do well this week. Look for him to attack the Par 5’s at Detroit Golf Club and shoot real low out there.

Tournament Matchups

Patrick Rodgers (-120) over Harry Higgs

I’m really high on putting and scoring this week, and Rodgers does both of those things very well. He’s 11th in SG: putting and 2nd in total birdies. Harry Higgs is someone I’m looking to fade this week because of his poor play recently.

Doc Redman (-112) over Harold Varner III

Really high on Doc Redman this week. He’s been playing great recently on top of the fact that he finished solo 2nd in this tournament last year.

To Make The Cut: Joseph Bramlett (-159)

In his last two Korn Ferry events, he had a T2 at Sawgrass and a T3 at the King & Bear Classic. He also made the cut this past week at the Traveler’s, so I think he’s a guy who is playing great golf and will continue to make cuts.
