History lovers can indulge themselves in tradition with Santini’s new retro cycling clothing line. The Santini Eroica collection is now available in our webshop. Stefanie is glad to have this collection in our store. She gladly tells us why we should start to ride in wool in this blog.
Normally, we don’t have Santini clothing in our collection. But I was sold when I saw the Santini Eroica Collection. I’m not much of a history fan, actually. But talk about cycling clothing and you have my full attention. And the originality, the materials, the details of this collection: it has the full package.
Santini’s origins
The brand exists since 1965. Petro Santini took over the lead of the company from his sisters. At first this company produced cycling clothing for third parties. Soon, this changed.
Petro decided to only produce the clothing in Italy for his own company. He didn’t regret this for a minute, because the Santini brand became a well-known brand in the cycling world.
l’Eroica
l’Eroica is an event that brings history back alive. Technology such as carbon frames, aero helmets or clothing are discarded. It’s classics only.
You can only take part in this event if your bike was produced before 1987. It’s also expected that you wear classic cycling clothing to finish the historical picture. It’s see and be seen: this makes this event truly great. Sharing history and fun.
Santini Eroica – traditions
Not many people have cycling clothes from before the 1980s, it’s more logical that you have kept the old bike, as it’s basically a museum piece.
Luckily, Santini were offered the opportunity to start a collaboration with l’Eroica, where they started the Santini Eroica collection to take part in these fantastic rides.
Santini Eroica collection design
Woolen cycling clothing has made a comeback in this sport. But the Eroica collection is slightly different. It’s more about comfort. These days it’s all about aerodynamics, and certainly more technology than a number of years ago.
The prints have nice details such as buttons on the pockets. Something that is almost unacceptable nowadays, or at least inconvenient.
But in fashion, so also in cycling fashion, everything makes a comeback. That’s the beauty of fashion: it’s a circle, with only a few additions and differences.
Eroica – Gaiole In Chianti
Gaiole In Chianti is Eroica’s symbol. The small village where it all started. The buttons on the rear pockets, the metal zip, and the embroidered letters complete the retro style.
Talking about retro: have you seen the colours? People used to have these colours on the walls. Now these colours complete your vintage cycling look.
The Santini Eroica California
The beaches of California were the inspiration for these colours. The colours are the only difference with the Eroica – Gaiole In Chianti jersey.
But what is an outfit without shorts? Nothing really. Lycra shorts/ or bib shorts are of course not done, in combination with the jerseys. Of course you need woolen shorts, the Eroica Daino. If you go for the retro style, then of course these completes the outfit.
A one-off collection
Do you want to take part in a l’Eroica ride in Italie or the Limburgish hills, but you don’t have classic cycling clothing yet? Then this is your chance. The Santini Eroica line is only for a limited period of time added to our collection. But of course you don’t need to ride the l’Eroica to wear the kit.
It’s also cool to just wear the kit during a nice summer ride!
