Everything Sony Revealed At E3 2017

Sony’s E3 presentation was all about the spectacle, and a carefully chosen handful of games. Unlike last year, when Sony dropped a string of surprises, this year’s conference was surprisingly restrained and even defined more by what it left out

Spider-Man

Sony’s centerpiece was next year’s new take on Spidey, from Insomniac, where we saw a nice bit of action and got a sense of how the game will play. The story is a fairly classic Spidey tale of criminal gangs, seemingly decent men turning out to be supervillains, and lots of acrobatic webslinging and face-kicking. And, as a bonus, we got a look at Miles Morales.

God Of War

Kratos returns with a new Norse setting and still no hint as to which god his son is supposed to be. Still, we got a better look at how the game plays, and a more mournful Kratos struggling to figure out how to be a decent father to his son while also killing lots of demons and hiding from his past, right down a clever joke with a Grecian urn.

Detroit: Become Human

David Cage’s next game, unsurprisingly, emphasizes choice, as you lead an android revolution, either peacefully or violently. It looks like this will have a bit more gameplay than Cage’s recent experiments, which should make for an interesting change of pace.

Days Gone

We saw some gameplay from Sony’s open-world survival game, which put a lot of emphasis on the brutality, including a sudden motorcycle dismounting, a gritty fight scene, and some rather gorgeous graphics. Oh, and more than a few zombies. It looks good, and in fact better than its last E3 showing, but it’s not clear what makes it distinct.

Gran Turismo Sport

Really, is it E3 without some sort of racing game as a console exclusive? The next entry in this franchise will be arriving in the fall.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

The de facto next step in the Uncharted franchise got a new trailer that looks like everything you want, and now with 100% more Chloe!

Playstation VR

The big announcement for Sony’s VR rig was Skyrim VR. But Starchild, which revolves around a woman and her giant robot, ’50s set horror game The Inpatient, Final Fantasy XV’s going fishing with Monster of The Deep, squad shooter Bravo Team, and fantasy platformer Moss all impressed.

Everything Else

Surprisingly, Sony focused more on a handful of games than a bunch of them, unlike Microsoft’s game-packed show. Still, there were some interesting additions. Shadow of the Colossus is being remade, and looks amazing. Marvel V. Capcom: Infinite debuted a story demo playable today. And Destiny 2 will be getting exclusive PlayStation content.

In all, it was quality over quantity; after all, what matters is how much you want to play the games, and these all look great. We’ll see what else E3 has in store when it kicks off tomorrow.
