1963 – The Rolling Stones released their debut single, ‘Come On’. Recorded the previous month, the track was originally written and released by Chuck Berry in 1961. The single reached No.21 in the UK Chart.
1964 – Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas made their live debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.
1964 – During their first ever US tour The Rolling Stones were booed off stage at a gig in San Antonio, Texas. Some performing Monkeys who had been the act on before the Stones were brought back on stage for another performance.
1964 – During a world tour, The Beatles flew from Amsterdam to Hong Kong. When the plane stopped to refuel in Beirut, police turned firefighting foam on hundreds of fans who had invaded the runway at the airport.
1969 – British supergroup Blind Faith, featuring Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Rick Grech and Steve Winwood made their live debut at a free concert in London’s Hyde Park.
1969 – Everyone was into hair, specifically the Soundtrack to “Hair”. It held down #1 on the Album chart for the seventh consecutive week.

1969 – The Who’s fourth Album, ‘Tommy’ album entered the UK chart, peaking at No.2. One of two full-scale rock operas from The Who (the other being the 1973 ‘Quadrophenia’).
1975 – “Love Will Keep Us Together” was #1 on a second format as the Captain & Tennille ruled the Adult Contemporary chart on this date.
1975 – Elton John’s ninth studio album ‘Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboys’, went to No.1 on the US album chart, the first album ever to enter the US chart at No.1. (where it stayed for seven weeks).
1975 – John Denver went to No.1 on the US Singles Chart with ‘Thank God I’m A Country Boy’, the singers third US No.1.
1977 – Led Zeppelin played the first of six sold out nights at Madison Square Garden, in New York City during their 11th and final North American tour. Playing a 3 hour set, tickets cost $8.50 – $10.50.
1978 – Prince’s first single “Soft and Wet” was released.
1980 – Bob Marley And The Wailers, Average White Band, Joe Jackson and The Q-Tips all appeared at The Summer Of ’80 Garden Party, Crystal Palace, London, England. Tickets £7.50 on the day.
1980 – “Funkytown” continued to ride the #1 position for Lipps, Inc. with “Coming Up” from Paul McCartney & Wings in the backup spot.

1986 – Doctor And The Medics started a three-week run at No.1 on the UK charts with their version of the Norman Greenbaum 1970 hit ‘Spirit In The Sky’.
1986 – Madonna went to No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Live To Tell’, her third US No.1 single, a No.2 hit in the UK.
1987 – David Bowie played a concert in West Berlin in front of the Reichstag with the speakers pointing towards the nearby Berlin Wall where thousands of young East Berliners stood and listened.
1990 – American group, The Black Crowes played their debut UK gig at The Marquee Club in London.
1997 – Hanson started a three-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘MMMbop’.
1997 – Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher played a five-song set at the Tibet Freedom Concert, Downing Stadium in New York City. U2, Patti Smith and Radiohead also appeared at the concert.

1955 – “The $64,000 Question” premiered.
1969 – Johnny Cash debuted his own network show on CBS-TV.
1969 – Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell both appeared on the first ABC TV Johnny CashShow from Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Dylan sang I Threw It All Away and Living The Blues and duetted with Johnny Cash on Girl From The North Country
1974 – The Kinks were hosts on The Midnight Special with ELO performing.
1979 – Blondie performed “Sunday Girl” on the British television show Top of the Pops.

1937 – The cover of “LIFE” magazine showed the latest in campus fashions of the times, which included saddle shoes.
1965 – In the U.S., the Gemini 4 mission was completed. The mission featured the first spacewalk by an American.
1966 – Roy Orbison’s first wife Claudette was killed in a motorcycle accident.
1966 – Sony Corporation unveiled its brand new consumer home videotape recorder. The black and white only unit sold for $995.
1972 – The musical “Grease” opened on Broadway. It had been playing off-Broadway for about 4 months.

1979 – Chuck Berry was charged with 3 counts of tax evasion.
1979 – Chuck Berry performed at the White House at the request of U.S. President Carter.
1982 – Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion in Memphis, TN, opened as a tourist attraction.
1991 – Jimmy Osmond married Michelle Larson.
1993 – The ground breaking ceremony was held for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, OH.
