Florence Lawrence In Warner Bit Role – 1932

By 1932, Florence Lawrence, once the biggest name in movies had lost it all. Her money was gone, her cosmetics business had failed and now she was attempting to return to films. Unfortunately, she was only able to find bit parts, often uncredited.

This article talks about a film called “Union Depot’. The film came out in 1932 starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Joan Blondell. While there are a lot of actors in Uncredited roles, IMDB doesn’t list Florence Lawrence as one of them,

Gene Dennis, “the Psychic marvel” was a popular psychic of the 1930s but I don’t know her connection with Florence Lawrence or the film “Union Depot”.

Florence Lawrence In Warner Bit Role

To provide the fleeting glimpses of faintly familiar faces which one always sees in waiting rooms of city station, First National Studios hired more than 100 well-known players and extras to play “atmospheric roles” in “Union Depot,” now at Warner Brothers’ Hollywood Theater.

One face which stirs the memory of fans in that of Florence Lawrence, one the reigning queen of the Biograph lot next to that company’s other famous star, Mary Pickford.

“Union Depot” appears in conjunction with Gene Dennis, “the Psychic marvel.”

And in the article below, we can see, again Florence is again reduced to a bit part, this time in a film called “Silk Express”. She is listed on IMDB for this one. I have no idea what Jimmy Durante was talking about in the second paragraph, He is not it “Silk Express.”

Florence Lawrence, the original “Biograph Girl,” most famous and glittering star of two decades ago, is working as an extra n First National’s “Silk Express”.

“Since animal pictures have become so popular,” orates Jimmy Durante, “everybody in Hollywood is taking the wolf from the door and trying to rent him to the casting director.”
