How to De-clutter before Your Big Move

De-cluttering your House is the first thing you need to do to in preparation for your big house move. If you are like most people, you probably have too much stuff that you don’t even use anymore. They could be clothes, furniture, bicycles, shoes, toys or clothes your kids have long grown out of and even items that you keep storing just in case you found time to use in the future.

When you are Moving houses, all these things will cost money to move. You may even be moving to a smaller house such that you may not have enough space to fit all these things into. A month or two before your move, begin sorting through your items one by one and find a way to get rid of anything that you don’t think will be worth paying someone to move to your new location.

So how do you decide what to keep, what to donate, what to sale and what to throw way? De-cluttering can be very hard and even painful for some people. Chances are these items that are cluttering your home have a sentimental value to your and you may have been storing them for many years. Below are some of the questions that you can ask yourself in order to determine whether or not to get rid of an item.

Is it an Item worth Paying for?

Obviously, you want your moving experience to cost you as little as possible (if this is even possible). The first question you should ask your self is whether or not a particular item is worth paying for. If it is not worth paying a mover to transport to the destination you are moving to, then it is not worth keeping it.

How much will it cost you to replace it?

When sorting through items, ask yourself how much it will cost you to replace it in time and money instead of transporting it. If it is something that you can easily replace, then it is not worth the hassle of moving it all the way. Get rid of it and you can buy another one when you get to your new home.

How much do you Really Use It?

You may be surprised to see how little you even use a particular item. It is possible that you do not even remember the last time you used it. If this is the case, get rid of it. You may give it to a friend who may need it more or donate it to a home, a charity, or the Salvation Army.

How Much Will you Get for selling it instead of storing it?

This is mostly the case with items that you store thinking that you will use if you found the time or items that you probably just store to remind you of the past. You may realize that you can actually make some money out of these items you can use for other things.
