If This is Your Bathroom Design, Three Signs You Need an Update

Adding plenty of counter space is ideal for any updated Bathroom design.

If you’ve lived in Burtonsville, MD for a long time, you may have noticed that your bathroom design might need a facelift. Bathrooms are one of the more essential rooms in the home. It is expected to be clean and fresh for daily use. A bathroom is one of the quicker rooms to begin to show age, wear and tear. An un-updated bathroom may leave guests and residents feeling not as fresh as they should even with regular cleanings. If your bathroom exhibits any of these signs, it may be time to go under the pallette knife and consider a new bathroom design

Little to No Counter Space

Bathrooms are notoriously small rooms. Oftentimes even the largest of older bathrooms have issues with storage space. There are a lot of great ways to make more room in the bathroom. A good place to start is to install cabinets inside your bathroom. This makes ample room for all of the towels, cleaning supplies, bath products, and more. There are also multiple types of cabinets depending on what kind of sink fits your bathroom layout more. For example, upper wall cabinets fit better with a pedestal sink, while lower cabinets as a vanity work better for a vessel sink. There are hundreds of colors, materials, and designs to choose from, ranging from a chic vintage to completely modern look.

Slippery Surfaces

Many times tiles in older bathrooms become very slippery, creating the need for a floor mat. In addition, sometimes the interior of the bathtub or shower itself is slippery, which could create potential for an injury. This is especially worrisome for families with older adults or children.  Modern updated bathroom designs have non-stick surfaces directly installed into the flooring or bathtub, eliminating the need for purchasing unnecessary mats or rugs that can ruin the look. A few modern solutions are tiles with larger grout lines, matte finishes, textured surfaces, or glaze containing sand grains.

Poor Lighting

Bathrooms are not just used for cleaning. They should be an area of the house with decent lighting and a mirror to help you get ready to start your day. The technology of lighting has come a long way in recent years. If your lighting is yellow or is centered from the ceiling, you may not look as flattering as you normally would. The best place for lighting in a bathroom is about 66 inches from the floor and spaced 30-40 inches apart around the mirror. This is the most flattering lighting style for your reflection. If there isn’t enough room in your bathroom for that, don’t fret. A strip of lights above the mirror should suffice.
