If you enter in the address for your project, and it comes back highlighted pink, this means you will need to get a BAL Assessment for your project.

We have been getting many questions regarding the BAL Assessments and what is required, so here are a few quick FAQ’s:

What is a BAL Assessment?

A Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessment is a means of measuring the severity of a buildings potential exposure to ember attack, radiant heat and direct flame contact in a bushfire event, and thereby determining the construction measures required for the dwelling.

Do I have to get a BAL Assessment?

You only have to have a BAL assessment completed if your property falls within the current designated bush Fire Prone Areas, as on the Map of Bushfire Prone Areas. See if your property falls within the designated bush fire prone areas here

What does the Bushfire Prone Map tell me?

The Bushfire Prone Map tells you whether you are in a bushfire prone area. If you are in a bushfire prone area you will need a BAL Assessment done, as all bush fire prone areas will be subject to new construction and planning requirements. These new requirements will ensure future developments in bush fire prone areas are better protected from bushfires. See if your property falls within the designated bush fire prone areas here.
