In my opinion, one of the best resources to come along in years is the website: www.houzz.com. It has revolutionized the way home owners Search and find everything from drawer pulls to pool houses. There are currently over 9 million keyword searchable photos on Houzz. Many of our clients have found us through Houzz and have created ‘Ideabooks’ using the photos on Houzz to help express their favorite styles and details.
We use Houzz regularly to research products such as lighting, plumbing fixtures, tiles and so much more. Interestingly, the website started as a way for a couple in Silicon Valley to keep track of Architects they were interviewing to design their home. Their friends asked to use their database, and it spiraled upward from there. Now, you can find builders, architects, interior designers, landscape architects, etc.. You can search a few miles from your home or across the world. We regularly receive calls from all points on the globe.
A fun fact that we love to brag about, (although this fact and $2.50 will get you a small coffee at Starbucks), is that if you search for architects on www.houzz.com and do not specify any location, we are the number one architect world wide. Of course almost no one searches for an architect without specifying a location.
The way all companies are ranked on Houzz is by the number of photos placed in someone’s idea books. We have photos that have landed in over 200,000 ideabooks; and then, there are other photos, I personally love, that hardly show up in any ideabooks. Below are some examples of popular images. Although I never know what will be popular on the site, mudrooms and pantries almost always get saved a lot. We currently have 95 projects on Houzz.com and over 1400 photographs of everything from laundry rooms to whole houses.
The only down side of Houzz is that once you start looking at the photos on the site, it is hard to get any work done on anything else.
