Get Moving on the Moving

Here are seven timesaving kitchen packing tips will get you moving so you can get moved:

  1.      Just do it. It’s easy to put off such a daunting task.  Procrastinating will only prolong the pain though.  Just jump on in and get it done.  Begin packing a few boxes at a stretch several weeks before your moving day.  Pacing yourself and spreading the chore out will make it not seem so overwhelming.
  2.      Focus on the kitchen.  If you focus on “one room at a time”, you will be more likely to have an easier time packing and unpacking.  Although you may be tempted to sort things otherwise, like all your books in one box and breakables in another, if you stick with keeping kitchen items altogether, you will simplify things.
  3.      Use labels.  When labeling your boxes, it doesn’t help much to jot “household” on the label.  The more specific you can be, the better.  Picture yourself looking for an item that’s in the box and you’ll do a better job labeling.  It’s a great idea to use different colored marking pens for each room the boxes will go in.
  4.      Don’t forget to use packing paper. Packing paper protects your valuables and breakables too.  Use brightly colored paper for small items that might be tossed out accidentally.  A newspaper is more economical but it tends to bleed on things, so stick to packing paper.
  5.  Use moving boxes.  While you may save a buck picking up boxes at the grocery store, you may lose more than you bargained for.  Boxes can be flimsy.  Furthermore, odd and ends boxes are more difficult to stack.  Boxes can be hard to find anyway.  Most stores throw them right into the compactor after unloading them.  Save yourself the frustration and just buy some moving boxes. – Learn More About Moving Boxes
  6.   Follow the rules.  If you are using a moving service, be sure to read the guidelines and follow them closely.  They are there for a reason.  There are items that cannot be shipped due to being hazardous.  Some of the prohibited items are things you might not expect, so be certain you read over the rules…and adhere to them completely.
  7.   Dealing with valuables. If you possibly can, skip the moving truck when it comes to things you cannot live without.  Important documents, jewelry, and irreplaceable keepsakes are best in your care.  Things do happen.

Now that you know how to get cooking on your kitchen packing, it should be as easy as apple pie.  Practice makes perfect so you can pack your kitchen and then when you have the hang of it, use these seven steps on the rest of the house!
