How To Clean Dish Soap Off The Tile Floors

Cleaning dish soap off the tile floors is easy. It is convenient in a few regards as well, as tiles don’t absorb moisture and are easier to clean when compared to carpet and wooden floors.

Let us follow the steps mentioned below in an orderly fashion and eliminate all the doubts you have regarding how to clean dish soap off the tile floors.

Steps for cleaning

Step 1 – Pouring the sand/salt on the spill

The first step is to pour the sand on the floor where the dish soap spilt. Pouring the sand on the soap will soak up all the moisture spread on the floor and it will clean a major part of the spilt dish soap very quickly.

Step 2 – Let the sand/Salt rest

After pouring the sand or salt on the spilt soap let it rest for around 15-20 mins at least. This will allow the sand to absorb the soaps’ moisture and make it easy to clean

Step 3 – Putting away the moistened sand

Use a dustpan and some paper towels to get rid of the moistened sand. It is highly recommended to use paper towels here. If you will use a broom for transferring the moistened sand into a dustpan, you will surely get the task done but it would be a different lot of effort you would have put to clean the broom. The dustpan would not be a problem to clean and you can through away the soiled paper towels along with the moistened sand.

Step 4 – Repeating

Repeat the above steps until you get most of the dish soap removed. Doing this will ease up the mopping process later.

Step 5 – mopping

After the major chunk of dish soap is removed, it is time for some water. Pour water on the floor and clean it up using a mop. You can use this Mop and Bucket. I don’t need to mention this but just in case it slips your mind, I will; DO NOT use any form of soap this time while cleaning.

Tips for mopping

Tip 1 – Mop Condition

The mop should be damp, not drenched. If it is drenched in water it would create a mess for you to handle. Also, it will take longer for the floor to dry. Because of this delay, you won’t be able to determine whether the floor is clean or it is still slippery. Hence it is better to keep the mop damp.

Tip 2: Things to take care of while mopping

Make sure you rinse and wash the mop several times during cleaning. Change the water after a few rinses for the best results.

Tip 3: Floor condition while mopping

This floor where we need to clean dish soap will become very slippery when wet. So, be extra careful while mopping. Stay clear of the wet portions and try to walk on the mopped floor.

Tip 4: Recommended mop

You can have a look at mops here. This is the best mop I came across. It also eliminates the need to carry a bucket around. Its triangular build lets you get the dust and stains on corners and this is the most basic and impressive feature of this mop. This is recommended mainly because of its triangular structure and its ability to clean the corners properly.

Step 6 – Suds

You can pour some vegetable oil if there are a lot of suds. Pour a little vegetable oil to reduce the suds. Don’t worry, both dish soap and oil will be removed while cleaning.

Step 7 – Drying the floor

Use a dry cloth or a dry mop for drying the floor this time. This way you can determine whether the floor is clear or it is still slippery. After wiping it with a dry mop, allow it to air dry completely.

Step 8 – Repeat mopping

Repeat the mopping procedure if the floor is still sticky or slippery. Let us just hope you get rid of the soap in your first round.

How to clean dish soap off the carpet floors

The carpet floor is a bit trickier to clean when compared to hard floors. Carpet tends to absorb moisture and this is where all the difficulty starts. If you leave the dish soap on the carpet for long it might breed mould.

Plus it has several chemicals that can harm and weaken the carpet fibre. It is best not to leave dish soap on the carpet floor for long periods of time.

Proceed with the following steps to know how to clean dish soap off the carpet floors

Steps for cleaning

Step 1 – Absorbing the dish soap using kitty litter

It’s recommended to use kitty litter here as it is highly absorbent and its grains are bigger than sand and salt, making it easier to clean off the carpet floor. Try to cover the area where dish soap is spilt with kitty litter as soon as possible for best results. Let it rest for 10 mins or so.

Step 2 – Removing the kitty litter

Unlike removing it from the tile floor, you have to be gentle here. Rubbing it in all the directions might end up pushing the dish soap deep into the carpet floor and we don’t want that. It is best to use a paper towel in a brushing motion. To get rid of the kitty litter from the carpet floor. Repeat this until it’s removed.

Step 3 – Sprinkling warm water

Sprinkle some warm water on the affected area. Don’t soak it up completely. Just sprinkle a little water. We don’t want suds to form and make an even bigger mess. We need the carpet to bloat up, not soak wet.

Step 4 – Dab

Use a dry towel and dab the damp area. Do not rub or press too hard. It will only allow the dish soap to go deeper. Dab the area lightly and repeat this process as many times it is required.

Step 5 – Using a vacuum cleaner

Use a vacuum cleaner after step 4 is complete. Vacuuming the floor gives you the mental satisfaction of getting the job done as well. It will remove all the tiny flooring elements and give you better results. Use a vacuum cleaner that has both wet and dry cleaning functions.

Step 6 – let it dry

Let it dry. It would be best to leave it under the fan if you want it to dry quickly. You can leave it be. It will dry eventually. After it dries. Check if there are any traces of dish soap. If there are you might need to repeat all the steps starting from step 4.

Wrap up for cleaning the dish soap off the carpet floor

I hope you can get an answer as to how you can clean dish soap off the carpet floor. Following these steps will give you the expected results. Try not to deviate from the above steps too much, especially the part where you use kitty litter and sprinkling hot water.

If the water sprinkled is more then it would take a lot of time for it to dry and you would have to dab on the floor a lot. Use little water and save yourself from this extra labour. You can use a spray bottle if you have one and spray water on the affected area as well.

How to clean dish soap off the wood floors

Cleaning dish soap off the wood floors won’t be much different than cleaning dish soap off tile floors. Time is of the essence here as well. Leaving dish soap on the wooden floor for longer time durations can affect the floor shine.

Repeat all the steps mentioned above for cleaning tile floors.  That will be enough to clean dish soap off the wood floors.

Is dish soap the same as laundry detergent?

Both are yes, used for cleaning but are different in certain aspects. For instance, dish soap has a ph level below 9 whereas laundry detergents can have a ph level up to 10. A ph level above 9 is harmful to our skin.

The ph of Dawn’s dish soap is somewhere between 8.7 to 9.3. This is safe for our skin to use. Using laundry detergent for washing utensils will clean the utensils thoroughly. But the same will not be good for your hands.

If you are washing utensils in a dishwasher, then you are free to use any detergent powder you like. Similarly washing clothes with dish soap will not clean the clothes as well as laundry detergent because of a low ph level and very low quantity of bleach.

Their function is the same but they differ in terms of results and repercussions in the long run.
