BBC Seeks To Shatter Glass Ceiling And Bridge Gender Pay Gap With 2020 Vision

The BBC has unveiled its latest roadmap for attaining gender equality through assembly of a task force commissioned to address the organisations Gender Pay Gap while simultaneously increasing the number of women in leadership roles and reshaping the broadcasters office culture.

Initiated by director general Tony Hall the task force will be led by BBC Scotland director Donalda MacKinnon who has vowed to use the opportunity to make big changes. Speaking to the ‘Dear 26 Year Old Me’ podcast MacKinnon explained: “When I began my career there were not many women in senior leadership positions, and there still are not sufficient numbers of women in those positions. We are trying to address that, alongside the Gender Pay gap.

“Old habits die hard. Some organisations have made far greater progress than we have, some we are ahead of. But the fact is, it [the gender pay gap] shouldn’t exist. The Director General has tasked me to lead the group and by 2020 to remove that gap as much as we can.”

The BBC has previously vowed to become an ‘exemplar on gender and diversity’ in light of a number of high-profile pay disparities.

The weekly podcast is aired weekly on and iTunes.
