Netflix leaves London commuters a little uneasy with Black Mirror tube station take over

Netflix has again taken over a London tube Station in its latest marketing stunt to promote the newest series of the cult show Black Mirror.

The stunt saw Old Street Station entrances wrapped in the series' unnerving black and white smashed mirror branding with phrases such as 'Tech startup turning dead loved ones into chatbots' and 'Dating app knows when your relationship will end'.

The disturbing statements were also distributed throughout the station in simple black and white poster format, briefly distracting commuters from their phone screens.

As well as the posters and videos throughout the station, Netflix ambassadors handed out webcam covers, in reference to its promotional video of laptop users being spied on from behind their laptops screens.

The Drum headed to Old Street to find out what the public had to say about the stunt. One traveller thought the messages could have been from the government at first, while another said: “It really makes you stop and think about things – and then you realise what it is all about.”

Black Mirror was originally shown on Channel 4 before Netflix bought the rights. The streaming service announced last year that it is set to release the stories in paper format.
