New Premier League TV Deal Will See Over 200 Games Air Live

The new tender to air Premier League matches has been released with the new deal set to include around 200 of its 380 matches made available for live broadcast, 42 more than before.

According to reports in the Telegraph, the matches will be broadcast in midweek, on Bank Holidays and Saturday nights to rival staples such as Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor.

The tender document for the television rights to Premier League fixtures will further follow the footsteps of the English Football League, which had decided to include entire midweek rounds in its next broadcasting deal.

The league agreed to make at least half of the matches available following an investigation by Ofcom into how it sells its television rights. At the close of its investigation in August, Ofcom said it had taken into account the Premier League’s "decent decision to increase the number of matches available for live broadcast in the UK".

The new TV deal will likely go some way to aiding the hunt for a new title sponsor with the league failing to land a new brand following the expiry of the previous sponsorship by Barclays last season.
