Serena Williams’ daughter Alexis might be just shy of three months, but the tennis star already has some words of wisdom for her new baby.
In Gatorade’s latest ad, Williams is seen cradling her young daughter – which sources have confirmed is actually a body double – while she explains to her the valuable life lessons that girls can learn from playing sports.
“Sports will teach you to be strong,” she says. “You’ll discover the power and grace of your body. You’ll learn to move and you’ll learn the way to move others. Sports will teach you the strength of your allies, whether your bond is by blood or by ball. Whether she shares the color of your skin or the color of your jersey, you’ll find your sisters in sweat.”
The ad, which is set to a rendition of ‘Girl On Fire’ by Alicia Keys, also features images of successful women who played sports growing up, including actress Allison Williams, chief executive of YouTube Susan Wojcicki, and editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue Elaine Welteroth.
According to Gatorade, girls drop out of sports at 1.5 times the rate of boys by age 14, which is why the sports drink brand has enlisted the help of Williams to encourage girls to keep playing.
