How To Stop The Kids Destroying Your House

Tags: kid house stuff
When you move into a new home, you spend so much time buying loads of great Stuff and carefully decorating to make it beautiful. Then the kids come through like a tornado and in the blink of an eye, the whole House is a mess and everything is broken. Maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but kids do have an amazing talent for breaking things and getting them dirty which can be incredibly frustrating. It feels like every time you clean the house up, it’s immediately dirty again. You could always give up and just let them run wild but there are ways that you can keep the house intact, even when you’ve got kids running about.

Outside Games Stay Outside

When I was a kid, I was always getting told off for throwing and kicking balls around inside. Kids will decide to play wherever they like but if they’re playing outside games in the house, you’ll soon be in need of a glass repairs company. It’s all about setting solid boundaries and making sure that they know which games are for indoors and which are for outdoors. You can get around the problem by keeping any balls etc. that might smash a window outside in the garage or shed so they can only get at them when they’re out in the garden.

Get The Kids To Help Clean Up

When they’re running riot and creating mess everywhere, the kids probably think that all that mess just magically disappears. They haven’t got a clue how much hard work you put into keeping the house clean and tidy. If they realized, and they had to help clean it up themselves, they might be a bit more careful. I’m not suggesting you put them to work and have them sweeping and vacuuming all day every day, but you should assign them all small chores and get everybody cleaning the house together. It’ll cut the amount of time you spend slaving away and it’ll teach them just how much hard work goes into cleaning up after them, so they might be a bit more careful in future.

Remember They Aren’t That Tall

If there’s one thing that all kids have in common it’s that they’re short. They can’t reach up that high and that gives you a good opportunity to keep your stuff safe. Get anything valuable and put it anywhere that’s out of their reach, then you can put all of the stuff that’s easily replaceable on the bottom shelves.

Baskets Everywhere

It’s great to have a place for everything and everything in its place, but that’s just not going to happen when you’ve got young kids in the house. As soon as you put something away, they’ll pull it out again. You still some way to deal with all that clutter so you can clear some space on the floor but you need something you can just chuck all of those toys in. Baskets are great for that because you can just scoop up all of the toys and games, stick them in and pile them up.

You’re just going to have to accept that you won’t have the tidy home that you want until the kids have grown up but if you follow these tips, you can keep it from falling apart completely.
