How I built a horseshoe winerack
Let’s get started!
What you’ll need
- 7 horseshoes. These can be new, rusted, or somewhere in between depending on what look you’re going for
- The Forney Easy Weld 140 MP multi-process welder
- Personal protective equipment (welding jacket, ADF welding helmet, welding gloves, safety goggles)
What’s nice to have

- Magnets
- Level
- Spray Paint
- Felt Protectors
And of course… WINE!
Step One
Pro Tip: Make sure the angle of the horseshoes tilt up slightly. This will balance your wine bottles so they don’t fall out.
Step Two
For the next step, I began to tack weld each horseshoe together at the joint. I used my Forney Easy Weld 140 MP for this portion, and it worked like a dream.
Step 3
Then, I laid one of the remaining horseshoes down to act as the base of my wine rack. I then took the three tack-welded horseshoes, and held them against the base. Using a magnet for this step helped me keep them still.
Once they were nice and sturdy, I laid some tack welds to attach the horseshoes to the base.
PRO TIP: Just like I suggested in step one, make sure you’ve tilted the angle of the horseshoes up slightly so the wine stays securely in place when in use.
Step Four
From there it was simple. I repeated steps one through three, keeping a close eye on the alignment of each side to make sure they’re even. Again, using a magnet for this step helped me get them perfectly in place.
PRO TIP: If you want to go a step further, use a level to ensure they are aligned exactly.
Next it was time to test the strength of the weld! For this step I used some extra metal to make sure it was sturdy and level. Then that’s it! Time for the finishing touches.
Final Touches
1. When your welds have cooled, spray your project with clear spray paint. I would recommend something rust resistant, such as rustoleum.
2. To avoid scratching any surfaces, I decided to add felt protectors to the bottom of the rack.
3. That’s all there is to it! You now have a functional wine rack, and bragging rights because you made this puppy with your bare hands.
