Winter Brunch Menu

When I was visiting my family in Russia last month I already knew I was going to work on a Winter Brunch shoot as soon as I returned, and I was actively looking for props. I needed something that felt fresh, coastal and wintery. I thought “wind-blown sandy beach”, “weathered white wooden tables”, “steely winter light” and “California-Scandinavia fusion.”

One day during our vacation, Ben, my brother and I were shopping together and spotted just the right thing — this powder blue linen tablecloth! Not only is it the perfect wintery sky color, it also reminds me of time back home with my family. I only wish I could get together with them for brunches like this more often.

I styled and shot these photos for Tastebook, and the following recipes are by Helene Henderson from Malibu Farm Restaurant and Pier Café.

Smoked Salmon Breakfast Lavash

Lavash was the only tricky ingredient in this whole menu. I searched all over the city, in gourmet and speciality stores, but finally found it at Trader Joe’s! Get the recipe.

Kale, Brussels Sprout & Avocado Salad

I’ve made this salad three times since this shoot. Thinly sliced raw Brussels sprouts are delicious, and I finally know what to do with fresh fennel! Get the recipe.

Coconut-Blackberry French Toast Pudding

French brioche bread is a dessert on its own. Add coconut milk, brown sugar, berries, and top with whipped cream, and it becomes a dish for a special occasion! Get the recipe.

This is probably my most favorite Tastebook shoot so far, I hope you give the recipes a try and enjoy them!
