How to Create Stunning Entryway Design

An Entryway is one of your first chances to create swoon-worthy design in your home. The front door is like the front cover of a book, and your entryway design is your first page.

Sadly, I see many homeowners neglecting this important space, throwing a few haphazard pieces into the area with little thought as to the look and feel. Or worse, putting nothing there and letting the first impression of their home be a blank wall.

Here are five ways to create Stunning Entryway design that will make the first impression of your home unforgettable.

1. Consider the style of the home

Is your house contemporary? Eclectic? Traditional? Think about your overall Style and choose a showcase piece or two for your entryway design that announce it. This could be a marvelous Midcentury credenza, a favorite large-scale piece of art, or accessories that speak to your overall design style.

2. Scale matters

How big is your entryway? Do you have soaring ceilings or is it a smaller space? Think about the architecture of your entryway when you plan your entryway design. Big spaces call for bigger pieces and more of them, too. Smaller foyers should be curated carefully so the space isn’t overwhelmed with “stuff.”

3. Make the furniture memorable

Inlaid credenzas, glass-and-chrome tables, velvet-upholstered ottomans…your entryway design is an opportunity to showcase some beautiful pieces. Choose one or two gems you love and accessorize them tastefully.

4. Always include art

An entryway without art looks naked! When you’re considering the style of your home (tip No. 1), pick out some art from a local gallery or store that really speaks to you. This doesn’t have to break the bank. Many galleries offer affordable choices, and you can also find a lot of up-and-coming artists on Etsy.

5. Don’t forget the rug

This is one of the most overlooked entryway design aspects. Most people will put rugs in living and dining rooms, but forget they look welcoming and wonderful in the foyer, too. Choose a rug that works with your art (no clashing), and make it as big as the space will allow — small rugs can be tripping hazards.
