It’s no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed a halt on many public gatherings planned for 2020. Major musical events like Coachella, Lollapalooza, SXSW and multiple artist tours are set to reappear in 2021 at the earliest. We get it. There’s nothing quite like live music, but in the meantime, musical groups and artists you love are putting on live events using an internet connection. Here are some upcoming online concerts that deserve your attention.
.
This week-long virtual festival celebrates the 23rd anniversary of the Mimir Chamber Music Festival and features performances from the “world’s leading orchestras, music schools and concert halls,” as well as Mimir alumni. Four separate concerts will take place: an Emerging Artists concert and three Mimir Artists concerts. Tune in Sunday for a special pre-concert “chat.”
Country music favorite, Brad Paisley, is set to headline the first drive-in concert series, sponsored by Live Nation. The tour will take place over two days in nine major U.S. cities, including Nashville, TN; Maryland Heights, MO; and Noblesville, IN. Attendees can bring up to four concert-goers per vehicle and will occupy two parking spaces to uphold social distancing guidelines. Tailgating with food, drinks and folding chairs are encouraged while viewers watch musicians like Darius Rucker and Jon Pardi live on large LED screens.
For fans of National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY, the Digital Discovery Festival will feature live performances from artists like Dayramir Gonzalez and Dan Tepfer to “fight the vulnerability performing artists are feeling during the COVID-19 outbreak.” Cuban-born artist Gonzalez is set to perform a 30-minute set of danzón personal compositions featuring La Teresita, Transicion, A New Day Danzón and Cuban Ballerina.
To attend this two-day digital alternative to the original festival, you won’t need a hookup on the inside or even a pair of VR goggles. To attend Tomorrowland Around the World, all you need is an internet connection and tablet, computer or smartphone… and a clear schedule. The digital event will feature eight signature Tomorrowland stages with performances from artists of all genres including David Guetta, Steve Aoki and Charlotte de Witte.
Sometimes all you need to brighten your day is to hear an impromptu performance from your favorite artist. Luckily, many are at home just like you and they’re passing the time by putting on live concerts via social media, free of charge. Check out some of the artists we’re following and when you can catch a live stream.
