What is Termite Awareness Week?

While most homeowners have some knowledge about termites—usually through word-of-mouth—the majority of them actually have no clue just how hazardous Termites can be. This is why pest control companies from across the United States team up with the National Pest Management Association for a whole week to focus on spreading awareness about termites. Termite Awareness Week’s aim is to inform homeowners on the detrimental damages that termites can cause to a home. It also acts as a way to teach consumers about the risk factors for a termite infestation and what to do to prevent one. While rare in Minnesota (compared to other parts of the United States), termite activity has been documented more frequently in several areas. If termites get a chance to infest your home, they won’t hesitate.

Termites might be small, but they are capable of causing homeowners big problems. Termites eat wood—preferably wood that has been previously damaged by water. They will feed on the wood until the point where it is essentially hollow. If this happens to the structural wood found in your home, it weakens the entire structure of your house and makes your home unsafe to live in. These repairs are not only dangerous and stressful, but they are expensive. They will also feed on any wood laying around…for example decks, furniture in storage, and debris. Because they primarily travel in tunnels underground (you may recognize their mud tubes along your property), they can easily go unnoticed for a long period of time. Once they infest your home, it becomes highly difficult to get rid of them.

This is where Adam’s Pest Control comes in. Adam’s has the proper equipment and training to place elimination and prevention techniques around your property. The most common technique is installing a chemical barrier around your home that prevents termites from entering and eliminates previous colonies. Our turn-key termite program features a system that is easy, affordable, non-invasive and promises that any products used are safe for the environment, your family and pets. The program complies with mortgage requirements and will provide any necessary documentation needs. Our mission is to provide homeowners, whether old or new, with a peace of mind that they can’t get from anywhere else.

Ultimately, peace of mind is one of the main goals of Termite Awareness Week (March 11-17). By spreading awareness, we can save homeowners stress, time, and money that a termite invasion would cause. It’s estimated that across the U.S., billions of dollars are spent fixing termite damage each year. Termite Awareness Week has the power to reduce that number on a national level. If you think you may have a termite infestation or just want to take control of your home once and for all, contact Adam’s Pest Control today.
