DIY: Pink Puffy Cable Cowl Kit from Artyarns

The Pink Puffy Cable Cowl Kit was a gift that came with one skein of cashmere and an online pattern. Meinhilde and I don’t often do kits, but this one caught my eye because of the lovely yarn. It is the Artyarns Cashmere Glitter, 100% Italian Cashmere with Lurex to give the silver metallic sparkle. Glitter, sparkles, beads, and sequins is one of Artyarns’ specialties. The Pink Puffy Cable Cowl Kit is no longer available on the website, but you can find other kits here.

The beautiful construction of this cowl makes it look more complicated than it is. The pattern by Iris Schreier was very simple, but the clever placement of the cable stitches makes an intricate texture. If you are new to cables, this is a great place to start. There is only one very simple cable stitch in the whole cowl. Also, if you want to knit a looser cowl, add one or two (or more!) cable repeats. Of course, this will mean you will need more yarn than the 155 m included in the kit.

The Pink Puffy Cable Cowl uses the entire skein of cashmere. I used 4.0mm/ US 6 needles for a final cowl measurement of 21cm / 8 in wide and 15 cm / 6 in tall. The resulting cowl is very lightweight at only 50g / 1.76 oz.

Artyarns, founded in 2002 by Iris Schreier, is a yarn company from the United States. It has almost 20 yarn bases and dozens of colours, from solids and tonals to variegated and speckles. Although you can’t buy the yarn directly from their website, you can buy their kits! Also, your local yarn shop may carry Artyarns.

Cowls are one of my favourite accessories to knit, since sizing and gauge are less important. Instead, the focus is on coziness. Here are some other cowls we’ve made here at Kiku Corner:

  • Crochet Berlin Cowl by Kiku Corner
  • Simple Brioche Cowl by Lavanya Patricella
  • Consilience Cowl and Free Pattern by Hunter Hammersen
  • Geneva Cowl and Free Pattern by Kiku Corner
  • Okinawa Cowl and Free Pattern by Kiku Corner
  • Oslo Cowl and Free Pattern by Kiku Corner
  • Collingwood Cowl and Free Pattern by Kiku Corner
  • Crocheted Toothed Cowl and Free Pattern by Kiku Corner
  • Checkerboard Cowl and Free Pattern by Kiku Corner

The Puffy Cable Cowl pattern isn’t available as an individual pattern. However, it is part of an e-book by designer Iris Schreier, along with three other patterns. Get the e-book on Ravelry here.
