Practical Bedding and Blanket Christmas Gift Ideas

B. Boza

For everyone who celebrates Christmas, the months leading up to it can be stressful if you’re unsure of what to buy for certain loved ones. Everyone has at least one difficult relative or friend that ‘doesn’t want anything’. But, you can still find plenty of gifts to shop for if you instead look at what they need. Bedding and blankets, for example, make great gifts. Though buying a loved one something practical for Christmas is considered “boring,” you can’t deny that you’ll be giving a Gift that will be used and appreciated. Comforters Shop Comforters: A comforter is typically made of two layers of cloth with a filling in-between that can be made of down, hypodown, feathers, wool, and more. It’s easy to layer on a bed due to its size and keeps everyone involved warm and cozy, even the dog (if you let your dog on the bed.) Comforters designed for kids can be bright and fun with cute animals or characters on them, which definitely softens the blow for kids when they receive something they need instead of a toy they want. Pillows Shop Bed Pillows: Though it depends on the amount of use and the filling inside, pillows do have an expiration date, and can start to hurt your neck, shoulders, and back if not replaced regularly. This Christmas, relieve a family member’s back pain by forcing them to change their pillows out with new, fresh ones. You might think that it doesn’t make a difference if you can’t see the stains on your old pillows hidden behind the pillowcase, but it does. Extra pillows in the house can be helpful for having guests over as well so that the host doesn’t have to sacrifice their favorite sleeping pillows whenever they have company. Quilts Shop Quilts: Quilts are a good happy medium between a heavy comforter and a light blanket. They’re good to layer on top of a comforter or sheet set, but not restricted to the bedroom and can be used in living rooms, on road trips, and picnics. You’re more likely to find a variety of patterns with a quilt than a comforter, and they are less of a commitment, as they can be more easily changed out and stored depending on the style and time of year. Sheet Sets Shop Sheets and Sheet Sets: If you want to go the extra mile, you can coordinate a comforter or quilt you’ve picked out for a friend with sheets, or just get a set for their existing bedding. Solid colors are easier to match, but on occasion you can find patterns that fit well with your bed set as well. You can also never go wrong with black, which never shows any stains, or white, which can be easily bleached clean, as color choices for your sheets. Really nice sheets can even make a great gift on their own, since high quality bedding can be a little pricey and is often a splurge that people won’t make on their own. Blankets and Throws Shop Blankets ant Throws: Finally, throws and blankets tend to be the most classic of bedding gifts. They’re light, stylish, and can be used at home or for travel. If you’re still in doubt on what to give someone for Christmas, it’s difficult to go wrong with a solid or lightly-patterned throw. Find out that person’s favorite color first, and really show that you put in the effort to get something they would use and like. As someone who lives in the cold, upper United States, I always appreciate a good blanket as a gift. If this all sounds tempting, but not necessarily what you want to give friends and loved ones, remember you can always treat yourself to an early Christmas present.
