Find a designer you trust
It’s important you not only trust the designer you have hired, but you also need to like them! This is a rigorous and collaborative process, you will be spending a lot of time together. If you have had friends, associates or family members who have worked with a designer, ask them for a recommendation. If not, research designers past work and see if their style matches your own. Don’t forget to check references.
Figure out your budget
When venturing on a new design project, make sure you have a Budget in place. Most designers can work within your budget, and knowing a rough number can help the design process . The designer can help budget the entire project and value-engineer when necessary but only you know what you financial limits.
Be sure you have a good idea of what you want out of your relationship with your designer and your project in general. Your designer will appreciate you being honest and upfront before you embark on a big project together.

Determine how involved you want to be with the project
Do you need someone to take the reins on this project altogether, or do you want to be involved throughout the process? Do you have the time to work on the project every step of the way?
Remember you are hiring a professional
After you have done your research: ripped tearsheets from Elle Décor, combed Houzz and pinned your Pinterest boards, don’t forget to relax. You are hiring professionals who know what they are doing. They are presenting you with exciting designs but also enhancing your vision of how you want your home to feel.
There will be stress and bumps along the way, but the designer will shoulder most of that and all you have to do is make decisions and give honest feedback along the way!
