End of Summer Energy-Saving Tips

As the summer starts winding down, it’s a great time to think about how you can best prepare for the fall by ensuring your home is as Energy efficient as possible before the weather starts to cool off and back-to-school begins to gear up. Here are a few tips that you can implement in your home and everyday life right now to save energy both in the long- and short-term.

1. Replace old appliances

Now is the perfect time to make renovations in your home where it’s needed – especially if your home has older appliances that may not be as energy efficient as the newer models. While this adjustment takes more time and money, it will be worth the investment in the long run, consider taking the leap now to prevent bigger issues down the road.

2. Make big little changes

If you’re not ready to make major home improvements, that’s okay. It’s just as effective to make small adjustments around the home that will add up and make a large impact on energy efficiency over time. This could be something as simple as using energy-saving lightbulbs or switching to a smart thermostat that automatically adjusts the temperature in your home. You definitely don’t have to break the bank to see a big difference in your energy usage.

3. Take advantage of the outdoors

Some of the best weather and temperatures often come around this time of year in the Midwest, so take advantage of that and spend as much time outside as possible. Instead of cooking dinner inside, find an outdoor grill, whether it’s yours or your neighbors, and cook up a delicious meal for your family to enjoy outside. The more time you and your family spend outside, the less energy being used inside your home – just make sure to turn off lights and adjust your thermostat when no one is inside.
