A Pomimo dog is part of the non-sporting and toy group. Pomimos have other names such as Eskiranian and Eskipom. This dog is also a hybrid breed, which means designer breed.

This type of breed is made up of two different pure bread breeds the American Eskimo and the Pomeranian. These dogs weigh between 10 to 17 pounds and get to be 7 to 12 inches tall, which is bigger than the average Pomeranian and smaller than an Eskimo.

The Pomimo has a thick, dense, long coat that will protect them from the cold, but that means they are big-time shedders. Their coat can come in many different colors from black, brown, gray, tan, and white.

The Pomimos have different varied characteristics from both the Eskimo and Pomeranian. They are almost always gentle, friendly, and usually affectionate.

Temperament

The Pomimo dog is considered to be very easy going happy dogs. They are made up of so many different characteristics from the Pomeranian and American Eskimo.

They are generally affectionate to both adults and children. They are very intelligent and loyal. They make very good watchdogs; they know when to defend their family if strangers are around.

Pomimo American Eskimo Dog History

While the history of the Pomimo is unknown when the first of this designer breed was developed, the parents of the breed have a long history.

The Pomeranian was known to live amount the royal queen victoria, and Later they became more popular and modern that many people had the same breed of dog.

The American Eskimo dates back as far as the stone age. They were widely popular in Germany but got its name changed from the German Spitz to the American Eskimo due to everything going on in the country at the time of world war two. 

It eventually came to American and grew in popularity. It is not know who first bred these two purebred breeds together, but it sure did make a fantastic mixed breed.

Size

This mixed dog breed does run small, not as small as a Pomeranian, but they could stay the size of a full-grown Pomeranian depending on where you got your Pomimo from.

They will usually be bigger than a Pomeranian and smaller than an American Eskimo. The minimum weight of a Pomimo is 10 pounds, and the maximum is 17 pounds.

They get around 7 to 12 inches tall, and that’s why they are classified in the toy group as well as the non-sporting.

Health Problems

Besides the things that need to be done with every dog breed like shots and check-ups, the Pomimos can get eye infections.

This is common in most Pomimos when they get sick. Make sure that you are taking them to the vet regularly and have updated shots to be sure no health issue should happen.

If they do seem to get sick or get an infection take them to your local vet immediately.

Pomimo Life Expectancy

Both the Pomeranian and the American Eskimo have quite a long life expectancy so naturally, when these two breeds were bred together it made a breed with quite a long life expectancy.

The Pomimo should live anywhere between ten and twelve years.

Living conditions

Preferably the Pomimo would be comfortable with a house with a yard so that they could run around in. The Pomimos are very active dogs that liked to be taken on walks daily.

You can live comfortably with them in an apartment, but if you take them on walks, it would make them happier with room to roam.

This dog will do great in all weather conditions as long as you maintain the grooming of their long coats. Depending on how much you groom them will affect how much they shed in your house.

Exercise

The Pomimos love walks and love to be active. That’s why they would prefer to have a yard to run around in.

Try to take them on walks almost every day or atheist a few times a week; the dog will enjoy it and get exercise while doing it.

Your Pomimo needs around one hour of exercise a day. This can be broken up through the day in multiple walks or play, but they need to be active for at least one hour.

Pomimo Feeding

It is important to know just how much food you need to feed your dog each day.  All dog breeds are different, and each one needs their own amount of food.

The Pomimo needs just around one cup of food each day. This will need to be broken up into smaller meals throughout the day at least two, but three would be better.

Make sure you buy a high-quality dog food to give your Pomimo all the necessary nutrients they need for a balanced diet. The food should cost an estimated $0.50 to $1.00 a day.

If your dog prefers wet food, you can give them a balance of both wet and dry mixed together.

Pomimo American Eskimo Dog Coat

Both parents of the Pomimo have extremely thick and long fur. This means it is not recommended to anyone who may have dog allergies because it is not hypoallergenic. 

These dogs will shed quite a lot around your home so make sure you are aware of this before you make your dog purchase. They do need quite a lot of grooming to maintain the shedding.

There are so many different colors that the Pomimo can come in. they are:

Sometimes you can get a mixture of a few different colors on your Pomimo. You won’t really know what type of color your puppy will have until it is born.

Grooming

The Pomimos need moderate grooming; just like humans, the time you put into grooming will affect how much they shed.

Give them baths every so often at least once a week and make sure you don’t see any health concerns with their eyes.

Brush their thick coats because they will shed, and the brushing of their hair will lessen the shedding. Overall it’s not extensive, and it’s more moderate.

Pomimo Training

The Pomimo is a dog breed that is naturally more stubborn than other breeds of dogs. This means you will have to work quite hard training your new puppy.

This breed does have a tendency to bark, so you will have to break your dog of that bad habit through training. Obedience training is extremely popular among this breed to get them to stop barking.

You will also have to work on house training your dog just like any other breed. This should start being done as soon as you get your puppy. Take them out many times throughout the day to get them used to going to the bathroom outside.

Remember to start early socialization with your puppy; that way, they can get used to being around people. Also, let them know children and other dogs to get them used to that too.

Before you even consider the idea of getting a puppy, you will need to look for a reputable breeder to purchase a Pomimo from.

Make sure you check both the American Eskimo parent and the Pomeranian parent’s health history to make sure there are no health conditions your puppy could inherit.

Both of the parent breeds are quite small in size, so remember a Pomimo puppy will be quite small, so you will have to be so gentle.

This designer mixed breed can cost around $750-$1,000. Depending on the breeder and what they offer with the sale of the puppy could make the price even more.
