Reclaiming a Romantic Bedroom

It’s easy to let your Bedroom turn into a sort of catch-all, multipurpose room. Guests aren’t likely to see it, you can’t keep every room looking great all the time, and you’re more likely to spend the time and effort on areas used by the whole family!

Romance has probably flown out the window if your bedroom has become a home office, exercise space, and storage room. If your Romantic life has fizzled, it could partly be because your bedroom doesn’t set the mood. It’s hard to be romantic when the surroundings remind you of a hundred other things that need to be done. To reclaim your bedroom as a romantic retreat, take action.

Clear Out the Clutter

Take a good, hard look at what you need in your bedroom. Romance doesn’t need an exercise machine next to the bed or piles of laundry waiting to be folded. The first step in reclaiming a romantic bedroom is eliminating distractions. Put the laundry baskets in the closet, relocate the exercise equipment to the basement or guest room, and clear out anything belonging to the kids. You want the space to be about just the two of you.

Rethink the Lighting

Harsh, overhead lighting doesn’t set a Romantic Mood. Choose subdued lighting from lamps or, if you have to have an overhead light, invest in a sparkling chandelier and install a dimmer switch. Switch out bright white lightbulbs for natural or warm, soft white bulbs. Low light is more romantic and enhances the mood.

Invest in Sumptuous Bedding

The bed is the focal point and should be treated accordingly. This is where all the romance will take place, so spare no expense. High thread-count sheets, a luxurious duvet, and heaps of fluffy pillows create an inviting space you’ll want to linger in. Try mixing and matching various textures such as Egyptian cotton sheets, velvet throw pillows, and a pashmina throw across the foot of the bed. What could be more romantic than lingering in a comfy, cocoon-like bed on a Saturday morning?

Banish Electronics

We’re so connected to our screens these days that it’s hard to unplug. Making your bedroom an electronics-free zone could save your marriage. You’ll be able to focus entirely on each other and won’t be hypnotized by the computer, phone, or television screens. The only exception might be a stereo, contributing to a romantic mood with the right music. Try listening to a few of your favorite songs in the evening as you relax together.

If you reimagine your bedroom as a romantic retreat for you and your partner, you may be able to rekindle the passion you shared before life got in the way. If things are still stale in the bedroom, commit to both of you seeing a doctor or talking to a specialist at ThriveMD to find out whether it’s a health issue rather than a bedroom issue.
