NorthDay EverDesk Review: Most Innovative Standing Desk?

If you’ve been searching for a reliable and affordable electric standing Desk, look no further than the NorthDay EverDesk. It is a top-of-the-line electric desk that is targeted at Australian users with all the features you need to stay productive and healthy.

The EverDesk Standing Desk is designed to make it easy to switch between sitting and standing positions throughout the day, allowing you to experience the health benefits of standing while still enjoying the comfort of a seated position. I've used it for nearly six months now; here's my experience so far.

NorthDay EverDesk: Quick Overview

NorthDay EverDesk

The EverDesk came on the market in Australia after establishing itself as one of Singapore’s leading stand-up desk brands. I have the largest size (160 x 70 cm) with raw ashen oak finish and an optional 58 cm shelf, but there are smaller sizes that are narrower than many other standup desks. With the smaller sizes, you of course get reduced usable desktop space. However, their compact footprint is ideal for smaller workspaces.

EverDesk has a sturdy steel frame, a wood veneer desktop, and many customization options. The desk is easy to assemble and adjust, and it comes with a generous warranty and trial period. It includes a stylish dial-style controller, which is more hi-tech than the multi-button setups used by all other brands. It also includes a sit-stand alarm, built to help you care for your health; the desk reminds you when it’s time to stretch your legs or do some work standing up.

What's more? The innovative standing desk can be set to a height range limit, and its controls are lockable to minimize the risk of children triggering it. The slight downside is there are only three pre-sets vs the four that are standard on other highly-rated models I've used, like the UpDown Pro Desk. However, without accessories, it's more affordable than the latter. I should add that those accessories really can shoot up the price of this height adjustable desk.

There is also the more toned-down version of the standing desk, the EverDesk Lite which is a more wallet-friendly option than EverDesk Max, but you have to ship it from abroad. It also has fewer features and lesser accessory options available. Here are some specifications, customisable options, and accessories to choose from on purchase.

Best Bits of the NorthDay EverDesk

The NorthDay EverDesk truly offers some of the most innovative features I've seen on a standing desk. Here are all my positive experiences from the standing desk so far.

#1. Durable desktops

The NorthDay EverDesk features durable desktop materials designed to last a lifetime. The high-compression fibre core of the tabletop is covered in a heavy-duty vinyl wrap for superior strength and durability. This vinyl wrap also provides excellent protection against water damage, as well as splintering and warping. It's also surprisingly lightweight for its thickness—measuring only 2.5 cm thick.

The desktops are available in three different colours: Lily White, Raw Ashen Oak, and Aged Darkened Walnut, with an additional black desktop option. The wood veneer used in the EverDesk furniture also uses less natural wood than solid wood designs, making it more economical and environment-friendly. If you choose the Black EverDesk Max, it comes without the built-in tabletop cable organizer – UniGroove cable stopper – which is their signature cable management system.

EverDesk Durable Desk (Raw Ashen Oak)

The surface of the desktop is well-built and smooth, providing ample space for your laptop and other items you may have on the desk. The lifting capacity (120 kg) is certainly good, and the durability of its frame is based on the quality of the design, not purely the weight metrics. However, the UpDown Pro Desk can lift more, and at the underside of the two desks, UpDown's cross members are thicker and look a bit more industrial.

#2. Good frame quality

The NorthDay EverDesk is constructed with a robust frame, so you don’t have to worry about any wobbling or shaking when you’re working. I barely encountered any, not even when I was adjusting the heights. It is made from cold-rolled steel and has a protective coat for added durability. This frame is designed to withstand up to 120 kg of weight so it can hold plenty of equipment and materials.

To put this in perspective, I have a 30-inch centre monitor and two older (heavy) 20-inch monitors on either side with additional equipment to switch the monitor and keyboard between laptop and desktop, speakers, etc. I haven't had a single issue. NorthDay's TriTier frame also has built-in collision and auto-shutoff capabilities that keep you and your system safe from any damage.

The dual motor construction on the EverDesk Max also adds to the stability of the desk. As a result, it works faster and quieter than many other standing desks. This also ensures that your work surface isn't disturbed by unnecessary vibrations or noise while you’re working, and it's been quite surreal to use so far. Not to mention how easily you can move the desk to a height of 4.5 cm in just 3 seconds.

#3. Impressive adjustability

The Northday EverDesk has an impressive range of adjustability. And it's expected at its price point; I know I did. The standing desk can be set to any height between 60 and 124 cm, which is just 1 cm less than Desky Dual Stand-Up Desk, another excellent standing desk available to Aussies. That height range, however, means that the EverDesk is suitable for everyone except the super-tall user.

EverDesk Health Coach Controller Knob

NorthDay's standing desk has a Health Coach Controller knob to easily change the height at three preset positions. And similar to other high-end standing desk options, there is an anti-collision system that detects and stops movement when objects are placed in its path. This promotes safety and prevents accidental damage to the desk and especially your office chair, which you're likely to roll under the desk after each work day.

The final innovative functionality of the EverDesk is its built-in vibration reminder at intervals between 15 and 60 minutes. The reminder alerts you when it's time to sit or stand throughout the day. Standing desks are not meant to be used all day, especially without helpful accessories like balance boards or anti-fatigue mats. So, this feature came in very handy.

#4. Easy to assemble

I'm a DIY person, so I will try to figure everything out independently. Unfortunately, I had little to figure out with the EverDesk standing desk. The standing desk came with all holes pre-drilled. I only had to tighten bolts into pre-drilled holes using a supplied Allen key. It was a super easy process, and I had it wrapped up in under 30 minutes. I reckon for anybody else who isn't so inclined with putting these together, it could take about 45 minutes.

Most other standing desk manufacturers require you to manually screw the desktop to the frame using a screwdriver. But not the NorthDay standing desk. And if you're unwilling to do it yourself, NorthDay can assemble it on your behalf when the desk arrives at an extra cost of $60.

#5. Useful ergonomics

To maintain an excellent ergonomic workspace, the EverDesk comes with the UniGroove cable management system, a groove near the rear to hold all of your cables in place when you disconnect the device. It is useful for organizing your phone and data cables, but it does not solve the problem with power cables since the cut-outs are not large enough to feed cables with fixed power connectors through them—if it was, it would be very ugly.

EverDesk UniGroove Cable Management System

The EverDesk also has a small scallop cut from the back of the desk that helps you keep the desk closer to the wall. If ergonomics is important to you, which I hope it is since you're looking for a standing desk, combine the EverDesk with other useful accessories to give you a more flexible workspace. This includes the use of sit-stand or drafting chairs that are designed to be used with standing desks.

#6. Affordable

The EverDesk is the best choice for people with a smaller space or people on a lower budget, if you have under $1,000 AUD to spend, then it is a great option. The standing desk has the most accessories of any standing desk I've used. And although they all fit nicely, be careful when choosing the options for your desk on the product site. Most of the accessories are sold in bundles; thus, you could easily assemble accessories that you may never really use. All while driving the price off the standing desk high.

#7. 3-week trial period

EverDesk offers a reasonable 21-day return policy, allowing you to test the product for a full three weeks before making your decision. The policy covers all costs of returning the product, such as shipping and handling. So if you don’t love it, you can send it back and get a full refund. We recommend familiarising yourself with the return policy on the product page to not nullify the guarantee in the three weeks you use the standing desk.

NorthDay insists that within that period, the standing desk must be in intact and excellent condition with no missing parts. And it must be placed back into its original packaging if you intend to ship it back to them. Any damage could lead to paying up to 30% of the standing desk price to return it.

#8. Generous warranty

The NorthDay EverDesk standing desk comes with an excellent 7-year warranty (default) plus 3 years (extended) on posting photos or videos revealing your experience of the standing—just in case you were wondering why there were a lot of photo reviews on their website. This gives you 10 years of coverage from defects in materials and workmanship. EverDesk will add an extra 4 years warranty worth $150 at the time of purchase.

What Can Improve With the NorthDay EverDesk?

It can't be all good now, can it? There are a few experiences that, in my 6 months of use, I'd appreciate if NorthDay attended to.

#1. No 100% hardwood or bamboo desktop options

The first is the EverDesk only gives you a limited choice of wood veneer-based finishes: ‘Lily white’, ‘Raw Ashen Oak’, and ‘Aged Darkened Walnut.’ The veneer is coated with a surface polish and does have a genuine wood feel. It is more expensive than melamine and also slightly more fragile. If you would happily pay a few hundred dollars more for a premium desktop made from solid wood, then consider the UpDown Pro Desk or the Desky Dual Stand-Up Desk.

#2. Expensive bundle of accessories

The accessories that come with the NorthDay EverDesk are excellent. They are well-made and will help you create an efficient and ergonomic workspace. However, these package accessories add a hefty cost to the price of the desk, making it more expensive than some other models.

#3. Pegboard is a bit flimsy

NorthDay's EverDesk also has a pegboard to make organizing your workspace easier. You can hang items like phones, tablets, and headphones from the pegboard to keep them off your workspace. However, the pegboard is made from plastic, so it’s not quite as sturdy as some other options. Still, it does the job.

NorthDay EverDesk: Rating & Rank

Compared to its many competitors in the Australian market. Here's how I rate the NorthDay EverDesk. For perspective, it ranks behind the UpDown Pro Desk but ahead of the Desky Dual Stand-Up Desk.

Category Rating (5.0)
Build Quality 4.4
Aesthetics 4.3
Cable Management 4.4
Customisability 4.8
Weight capacity 4.5
Ease of Assembly 4.5
Value for Money 4.5

The Competition

Does any of the drawbacks of the NorthDay EverDesk Max rule it out for you completely? Then consider any of its competitors below. Better yet, read my extensive guide on the best standing desks in Australia for a more in-depth comparison among many more options.

#1. UpDown Pro Desk

UpDown Pro Desk

The UpDown Pro Desk and NorthDay EverDesk are made with a solid steel frame, making them incredibly durable and dependable. However, the NorthDay EverDesk is more affordable. Both desks also come with dual-motor systems, but the UpDown Pro is capable of lifting 150 kg while the EverDesk is capable of lifting 120 kg. It also has one more preset option than the EverDesk.

EverDesk comes with a uniquely-designed Health Coach controller to adjust the Desk height and set a sit-stand timer which isn't available on the UpDown Pro Desk. Their desktop sizes are also up to 15 cm deeper than the UpDown Pro, making them suitable for smaller workstations.

#2. Desky Dual Stand-Up Desk

Desky Dual Stand-Up Desk

The NorthDay EverDesk and the Desky Dual Stand-Up Desk offer a unique design with a scallop carved at the backside of the desktop to make it easy for you to run down the cables. The Desky has two optional cable trays on either side to keep all of your cords organized, while EverDesk offers a few cable-organizing accessories.

The lifting capacity of Desky is 20 kg more than the EverDesk. The Desky Pro is also more expensive than the EverDesk, but it offers only a 7-day free trial, while EverDesk offers a 21-day trial with a money-back guarantee.

#3. Artiss Standing Desk

Artiss Standing Desk

Both desks are quite affordable and great choices for upgrading your workspace, if you’re tight on your budget, consider the Artiss Desk–it's almost half the price of the NorthDay EverDesk.

The Artiss sit stand desk does not have any grommet holes for cable management and doesn’t include any power outlets like EverDesk.

Artiss Desks are thinner and based on particleboard, but they don’t look completely inexpensive. They can only support 100 kg of weight, compared to EverDesk's 120 kg. The Artiss also has a more limited height adjustment range from 69 to 118 cm, while EverDesk has the 60 to 124 cm range.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some frequently asked questions on the best use and maintenance of the NorthDay EverDesk standing desk.

1. How do I clean my EverDesk?

To clean your EverDesk standing desk, start by wiping down the frame of the desk with a soft cloth and warm water. Clean any dirt or dust off the top of the desktop with a damp cloth. Then use a gentle cleaner such as mild dish soap and warm water to clean spills.

Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasives, or solvents on the surface of the desk. For deeper cleaning, you can use non-abrasive cleaners like rubbing alcohol wipes or an all-purpose cleaner. Make sure to wipe it down with a clean, soft cloth afterward to remove any residue and dry the surface immediately.

2. What is the difference between EverDesk Lite and Max?

There is no difference between Lite and Max in terms of quality – both are built with similar materials. The difference lies in the offerings of two types. The EverDesk Max offers many extra features and accessory options over the Lite Desk. Lite has one motor, while Max has dual motors for faster and quieter height adjustments.

3. How do I unlock EverDesk?

The height adjustments on the EverDesk standing desk are made through a uniquely designed controller dial that is quite easy to operate. Swipe the dial from 1 to 3 in one go. This will unlock it and allow you to adjust the desk's height. EverDesk also features a ‘lock’ mode to address accidental changes in the height position of the standing desk.

4. Does the EverDesk scratch easily?

The NorthDay EverDesk is made from high-quality materials, so it is unlikely to scratch easily. The frame is made from cold-rolled steel covered with a protective coating, making it resistant to scratching and rusting. The desktop itself is made from a special composite material which is also scratch-resistant and durable. Still, you must be careful near children and practice good maintenance habits to get the best out of it.

Final Verdict

The NorthDay EverDesk offers superb adjustability and convenience. With its powerful motor, vibration reminder, height-adjustability, and anti-collision system, it is ideal for anyone looking for a reliable and ergonomic solution to their workspace needs.

You can expect a desk that is durable, aesthetically pleasing, and long-lasting. All-in-all, the EverDesk is perfect to use for both residential and commercial environments.
