New Apartment Necessities - 5 Things You Must Organize Before Moving Day

There is nothing quite like the excitement of Moving to a new area and starting afresh. If only the tedious process of physically relocating all your belongings and getting organized didn’t have to be such a drag. To help you get through this time quickly and efficiently, here are five things you should prioritize before the big day:

1. Cookware That Matches Your New Kitchen

Plenty of new kitchens will feature modern and efficient induction cooktops. If your new home does too, then you will not need to bring along any of your existing non-induction pots and pans as they will not be compatible. Instead, buy induction cookware online and get it delivered to your new address. That way, you save yourself the trouble of packing and moving all the pots and pans yourself!

2. Utilities At Your New Home

Whether or not utilities such as electricity, gas, internet, and water services are already installed at your new home will depend on the property and whether you are renting or buying. In either case, don’t wait until moving day to find out your utility situation.

Contact your agent, property manager, or landlord to enquire about any existing utility contracts that may be in place. This way, you can organize transferring them over to your preferred providers or setting up new services so that they are ready for use by the time you are moved in and settled.

3. Your Source Of Transport

This is applicable to everyone. If you don’t have access to a vehicle and help, take some time to ask around your networks or hire a professional removalist. Make sure to talk about what kind of furniture items you have so that they can be best prepared.

If you already have your own suitable vehicle, take note of any large or fragile items that you will be moving. This way, you can plan to have any straps, covers, bubble wrap, or any other necessary tools to safely transport your items.

4. A Helping Hand

You might be confident enough in your skills to handle everything alone. Or perhaps you feel like you’d be burdening your friends by asking for support. The thing is, having a helping hand is always a good idea when moving. Having someone to spot you when carrying fragile belongings is not only comforting but necessary for safety when relocating home. A second (or even third and fourth!) pair of hands to help with carrying heavy items is pretty much essential.

Having someone to talk to will make the time fly by faster, and you can celebrate the accomplishment at the end of it. To make this easier, pre-order some food and wine so they’re waiting at your new place when the hard work is done.

5. Your Personal Moving Kit

You don’t want to be looking through your packed-up old house for little items and label makers on moving day! So, start working on your moving list right away. Take note of all your belongings room by room so that you have an idea of the different box sizes and items you will need to move.

Create a Personal Moving kit with items you will need for packing and reorganizing on the big day. This can include things you will keep on-hand such as a few cleaning products, labels and pens, duct tape, scissors, and a water bottle.

Make sure you do all your physical packing and box-sorting before the big day! This way, you can keep your focus on the physical moving. For now, you can enjoy the preparation stages, starting with the above five tips!
