Treasure Troving ~ Vintage Cutlery

Troving,”  is my version of “antiquing.”  Treasures are subjective and not always an antique – it’s the little gems I love to search for at flea markets, yard sales, consignment stores, etc.    One of my favorite items that I’m always on the hunt for during my troving outings is single vintage cutlery. Have you ever stumbled across a beautiful knife or fork and thought, “What am I going to do with just one knife?”  Don’t pass on it -add that lovely knife to a cheese board or serving platter and you instantly have spruced up your presentation with its beauty. Single utensils are an easy and very useful collection to begin, and you’ll use them repeatedly.

Other Useful Ideas:

  • Ditch the plastic and use mismatched cutlery for picnics.
  • My kitty has a beautiful old fork dedicated to her food.
  • I use an old serving spoon for skimming oil from the top of sauces – it’s just the right size.
  • In the laundry room,  use an old tablespoon for measuring out detergent.
  • Forks are useful when transplanting seedlings – use them to lift the plant’s tender new roots out of their starter tray.
