Taking that Extra Time in the Mornings

I woke up this Morning feeling pretty good, the sun was shining, I could hear the birds outside my window and the air felt fresh, crisp, and new. There's just something special about the mornings.

Despite the world's problems and all the sadness surrounding this nation, I think how blessed I still am to know Jesus and to allow His Peace to permeate my soul. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27).

I never really knew how important it is to have calmness in my life until I reached age 50+. When you get past a certain point in life, I think you just want all the drama to go away. I'm trying out a new daily routine where I take a little extra time in the mornings after my prayer time for me to mentally get ready for work. I may go on social media for a few minutes to see what friends are posting, talk to hubby for a bit, and grab me a light snack, before I open my business email. Before, I would have a short prayer and then jump right into work. And, by lunchtime I'm fried!

Taking just an extra 30 minutes has been helping, because I'm actually ready for work and my day goes by better. I'm not tired and stressed out by lunchtime. I'm notorious for sacrificing to meet a deadline, but in doing that I give up my peace. When I'm so busy working and meeting others' needs, I end up neglecting my own. And for awhile, that's okay but, continuously doing that bars on disaster as that can lead to hypertension, irritability, and frustration. And we know that can cause physical health issues.

I'm working on finding the balance as with us ladies, we juggle so many things: husband, Family, possibly children, work, friends, ministry, and running the home...working all this into a 24-hour day is a miracle!

Here's some of my ideas:
  • Take that time for yourself. That might mean enjoying a bubble bath at night or watching your favorite movie.
  • Pedicure/Manicure. If you can, having some sort of spa treatment works wonders for the body and mind.
  • Reading a good book. I actually am BAD at this, I read articles and reviews, but I mean opening up a book and finding a comfortable place in the house away from the computers and just read. I think this gets your mind off problems and stresses and allows you to focus on something positive.
  • Spending quality time with family. I think this one is really important, because no matter what goes on at work or ministry, at the end of the day it's our family we're working so hard for. We shouldn't neglect them. And, I would add: try not to talk about work on family time.
  • Socializing with friends. We need peers to hang out and enjoy ourselves with. This helps to balance out work and play.
When I was thinking about what to write today, I didn't know I would write about this, but nevertheless I know I have to work and I'm not as young as I was so it's really imperative for me to make some changes so I can continue to be at my best for my work, my hubby, friends and family, Jesus, and for myself.
