Five Simple Ways to Reduce Stress as a Crafty Business Owner

All entrepreneurs experience Stress and burnout from time to time. It’s an inevitable part of running a small business. Working for yourself can be so rewarding, but the stress can really affect your productivity.

Here are my best tips for dealing with the pressure:

1. Simplify Your Workload

Streamlining your daily tasks is key to staying levelheaded when running a handmade business. Try to stay organized and save time by doing things like setting up automatic bill payments, scheduling social media posts, and outsourcing tasks like accounting. The less repetitive busywork you have to do every day, the more time you can spend on making products and increasing profits!

2. Take Care of Yourself

Entrepreneurs often work long hours on their businesses but neglect themselves physically and emotionally. Self care is so important to be able to effectively handle stress. This includes going to the doctor and dentist annually, getting enough exercise, and keeping up with your social life. You may not have much free time, but it’s crucial to not just work all the time to the detriment of your wellbeing.

3. Create a Calm Space

The environment you work in can make a big difference in your mood and output. Minimizing distractions, cleaning regularly, and being comfortable will keep your frustration down while allowing you to be more productive. The factors that make the perfect workspace are different for every crafter, so figure out what works for you and your handmade business.

4. Chat with Other Crafters

No one understands the pressures of running a small business like a fellow crafter. Having a chat with a friend who also has a similar company can help you vent and relieve stress. They can also provide you with solutions to tough situations as well as resources you might not have known were available.

5. Treat Yourself

You work hard, so rewarding yourself is important. Setting goals and then treating yourself when you accomplish them can make work tasks more fun and enjoyable. That way you’ll look forward to getting things done instead of procrastinating. A treat can be anything from a short walk to a new pair of shoes to an ice cream cone. Whatever small thing makes you happy, go for it! Your stress levels will drop if you reward your efforts.
