Just in time for a last-minute valentine project this week is this tutorial on how to make Adorable Pendant Necklaces- for your galentine OR your valentine! Did you know that Galentine’s day is Feb 13th? It’s a day to celebrate your best girl friends! Whether you decide to throw a classy brunch or just meet up for a crafty morning, this simple and super cute project will be a perfect activity. It is also entirely appropriate for older kids. We once did this activity for a galentine party my 7-12 year old girls held. The girls were very creative and loved the finished result. They all wore their pendant necklaces to school on valentines day! As much as I love celebrating Valentine’s day with my hubs, it is great to have such an excuse to let pink abound and show all the people in your life a little extra love.
This year I made these necklaces for my daughters to wear to church Sunday, Valentine’s Day.
Begin with the purchase of clay (usually a package is under $3 and there are many brands/colors to choose from. I chose colors that had the same brand name so they would cook the same amount of time), and small jump rings (found in the jewelry section of your craft store). You will also need ribbon to hang the pendants on.
Now for the fun part. Get a bit of dough out, seal the rest up in a ziplock, and start workin’ it. Smaller pieces are easier to work with. Knead it in your hands and palms until it is soft and workable and shape it however you wish. We made smaller size pendants for our necklaces since they were going to be worn by small people:) After it is shaped to your liking, insert your jump ring. Make sure the clay closes around the inside of the jump ring so it doesn’t slip out after it has been cooked.
Cook according to package directions. Mine baked for 30 minutes at a temperature of 230°F. Cooked, cooled, and ready to be glazed.
To glaze the pendants and give them a glossy sheen, we used a gel set clear nail polish. It dried really fast. Take care not to fill the middle of your jump ring with polish.
Choose your ribbon flavor and cut the end at a sharp angle to create a point. Thread that point through the jump hole. We had put jump rings into the top and bottom of a few of our pieces and had a lot of fun stacking.
Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday this year and I think these will be so cute on my girls with their Sunday dresses for church. They would look adorable for school day wear all layered up too! Wear them or gift them, this project is sure to be the sweetest thing around this valentine’s day!
