Six lucky military Veterans just received their new 2015 motorcycles from Harley-Davidson.
The surprise was jumpstarted by a partnership between Harley-Davidson and the Wounded Warrior Project to inspire and encourage service men and women who are living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Great grandson of the co-founder, Bill Davidson, together with six other Harley-Davidson employees who are veterans, rolled out the new bikes with a police motorcade to Jacksonville, Florida to deliver the goods. The riders gifted the hogs to injured veterans during their press conference announcing the partnership.
All of the veterans have been diagnosed with PTSD and were carefully handpicked because, even if they’re all experienced riders, they don’t have access to bikes because of certain hardships. All six veterans are affiliated with the Wounded Warrior Project.
EVP of Warrior Relations at the Wounded Warrior Project, John Roberts says, “It is important to have the support of corporations like Harley-Davidson which understand the long-term needs of our nation’s veterans and are willing to work with us to help Warriors uncover and live with their ‘new normal’.” “We know from our warriors that recreational activities like motorcycle riding provide a multitude of therapeutic benefits for those living with PTSD.”
As part of the partnership, Harley-Davidson will be collaborating with the Wounded Warriors Project to create a program focusing on helping veterans experience the positive benefits of being on the open road. Motorcycle riding has been known to provide positive and therapeutic rewards to those with PTSD.
Incoming CEO for Harley-Davidson, Matt Levatich says, “We’re proud of the nearly 100 years of support Harley-Davidson has provided to the men and women who defend our country and our freedom.”
“Our partnership with Wounded Warrior Project builds on that legacy by supporting these veterans in their quest for strength, freedom and independence.”
