Mother's Day and some stories~

“But there's a story behind everything.
How a picture got on a wall.
How a scar got on your face.
Sometimes the stories are simple,
and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking.
But behind all your stories is always your mother's story,
because hers is where yours begin.”
― Mitch Albom, For One More Day.

I love my mother.
I am grateful to still have her joyful presence in my life for all these years.
I am blessed.
My story was not always simple....
sometimes hard and heartbreaking .....
but because of her my story began.
I spent today,Mother's Day with her and my father, my sister and my family.
I know how fortunate I am to be surrounded by such love...
Many of you are not, many of you have lost the one who gave you your story.
Many of you are just trying to make it through the day.
It is a day to celebrate and a day to remember...
A day to reminisce.....

You may, or may not know that my husband and I vacationed in Paris, France earlier this year....

I spent some time, once again this afternoon looking through my photos of that memorable time.
and today I am missing Paris
But, what it made me do...
what today makes me always do...
is miss my Grandmother.
She was a second mother to me...
she has given me many, many stories as well...
and I only wish that she was here for a short time more...
so that I could share a few more of my stories with her.
I searched through the photos, and wondered which she would have like best.
My grandmother was from Italy, but was part French...
she would have loved my story of our flight out,
of the delay on the runway...
and laughed at my stories of our return through Customs...
of our trips to the museums,
of Notre Dame...

(this candle is for you Gram and Grandpa, too)
she would have loved that I saw the Mona Lisa...

she would have laughed when I told her the story of the "bird man" at Le Jardin des Tuileries ...

she would have kissed me goodbye and kissed me hello again....
so many stories...
so little time.
Remember that.
And treasure each moment..
treasure each story...
the simple ones...and the hard ones.
and Gram,
my lilacs are blooming...

these are for you.

xx
