Knitting progress, sweater news and helical knitting

I’m Knitting the Worsted Boxy sweater by Joji Locatelli – the pattern is available on Ravelry – using my own Corriepol DK yarn. I’ve started with Kingfisher, then used Shale and I’m now alternating Shale and Shadow in single round stripes.

The technique that has me going down rabbit holes is Helical Knitting. There are various ways to do this but, in essence, it involves working your knitting carefully in a spiral to avoid seam-like jogs as you change colour. I added a few links about helical knitting in this post.

Since then, I’ve found a new source of information: Jen Arnall-Culliford who has a great video tutorial on Helical stripes:

Jen also has an ebook of patterns on Ravelry with lots more information about Helical knitting here. For more information see her blog post here.

I’ve started working on her mitt pattern from this ebook using the minis in my naturally dyed set, which is still available in my Etsy shop.

Grey ribbed blanket

I’m using a strand of Stylecraft Special DK in graphite held together with a strand of Stylecraft Bellissima Smoked Pearl and working UK half trebles through the back loop for form deep ridges.

Shawl progress

I’ve done a bit of work on my Moonlit Shawl by Sandra of Cherry Heart. The pattern works with a single skein of sock yarn or can be done in a DK weight yarn. For more information and a link to the pattern, see Sandra’s blog post here.

My shawl is in my Pumpkin Spice Latte in the Finest merino and silk base but this colour way is sold out now. Other colours are still available with a few skeins of each left…

I’ve also started a new shawl – the Copper Beech shawl by Annie Designs Crochet. I’m making this in a skein of the Eye Candy with Attitude colourway that I dyed up for one of my sock clubs earlier in the year.

Its available now on Etsy – you can buy the single skein or a sock set with the dark brown 20g mini or the sock club set with a dark brown and a natural cream 20g mini.

And yet another new shawl is now underway after I wound one of my Amazon Warrior skeins into a massive, 500g yarn cake and had a bit of a crafty startitis session the other weekend. I can now offer this service on all the Amazon Warrior colourways included in the price

My Birthday acquisitions

I seem to have gone a bit mad with my birthday this year. As well as lovely presents from my son and daughter, which I don’t say much about in the podcast, I bought myself some yarn from these wonderful and talented dyers:

  • Jane at Hedgerow Yarns
  • Michelle at Wild Rose Yarn
  • Amy at Stranded Dyeworks
  • Eleanor at Solstice Yarns

And I’m doing a Christmas calendar swap with Nicky of Fairy Realm Yarns

PS…

The shawl I’m wearing is the Skimming Stones shawl by Joanne Scrace of The Crochet project and you can find out all about it in this blog post I wrote a while ago.
