Ametsa: a new shawl pattern in Dream Catcher

One of the first new yarns released by Stylecraft in 2019 was the Dream Catcher range, a set of gorgeous long colour-change yarn cakes in a dreamy and hazy DK yarn.

The yarn blend was new – 90% acrylic and 10% wool. You might think just a tenth wool wouldn’t make much difference but in really makes the yarn feel sumptuous. Its beautifully soft but the haze makes it feel as though there is far more wool within its strands.

The balls are 150g and each one has 435 metres of DK yarn. The Colour Ways are beautiful individually but they work really well together in pairs… this immediately struck me when I saw them and other designers have obviously thought the same.

Comanche and Chinook, Apache and Cheyenne and Blackfoot and Arapaho all make fabulous pairings don’t they?

Designing is something that I really struggle with most of the time but the two colour ways, Comanche and Chinook really inspired me to create a new shawl and I started working on it the weekend after our last Stylecraft meeting.

As is the way of these things, patterns take a long time to come to fruition so its nearly 5 months later and I can finally say the pattern is ready. Meet Ametsa in her original blue and green hues…

Ametsa even looks good from the ‘wrong’ side!

The Ametsa pattern is now available on Ravelry and will be on special offer, at 25% discount for the first 7 days after pattern release (15th July 2019).

I wrote up the pattern fairly quickly but wanted to get it all checked and tested before pressing the live button. I had all six colour ways as part of the yarn package from the February Stylecraft meeting and two of my lovely Patrons, who support my podcasting and blogging by subscribing to my Patreon space, offered to test the shawl and make a sample in two other colour ways. Brilliant!

They worked very hard and quickly and returned their shawls to me a few weeks later. I can now show you how the shawl looks in the two, quite different colour schemes, and I can be more confident that the instructions in the pattern can be followed without too much difficulty.

Gorgeous aren’t they?
