Options on finishing the quilted snowman table runner

Yesterday we made the head and noses for the snowmen quilt blocks. Today we get to have more fun and put it all together and quilt up this sweet snowman table runner!

Lay out your 6 snowman squares in a pleasing manner. Place the eyes and nose on each one. You can do it so they’re all facing the same way, or have them all looking in different directions. This can be effective if you’re using it as a table runner or even a bed runner as the faces are looking everywhere.

Once you have them in a position you like, take each square and press the nose down following manufacturer’s directions. Sew on the button eyes.

Sew the squares together as you had laid out to get a long table runner.

From the blue fabric piece, cut strips of fabric, 1½” wide. Cut two 1½” x 12½”. Sew these to the ends of the table runner. With the remaining strips, sew onto either side of the runner. Press.

Attach your backing and binding using your preferred method. When quilting, you may or may not choose to do much in the snowman’s faces. But you can do a machine applique stitch around the nose to quilt it down and the eyes. You can also create a smile on each and this will keep it intact.  As well if you want you could use embroidery thread for the smile on each snowman.

I would suggest quilting in each of the corners, whether it just be echoing the lines or some free motion quilting as well as a bit in the border.
