Home Decor SU Style Blog Hop

Welcome to the first Home Decor SU! Style Blog Hop where we are sharing different ideas for using Stampin’ Up! to create home decor. Yes, you can stamp and use paper to create beautiful Home Decor items. I’m excited to share two projects with you.

Home Decor SU Style

Party Time Home Decor

This is BIG! Yes, I’m talking about the Home Decor projects that I’m sharing with you today. Both of the projects that I’m sharing were created ultimately for parties but at least one of the projects will stay up throughout the summer. Why, because IT is so BIG, FUN and totally awesome.

The BIG project was inspired by Erica Cerwin, The Pink Buckaroo Stamper. I’ve seen her paper flowers and decided it would be fun to make some of the Jumbo Paper Flowers for my Garden Party Catalog Launch Party using most of the NEW colors from the color revamp.

Project #1 – Jumbo Paper Flowers

I made a whopping 13 Flowers in 3 different sizes. The jumbo paper flowers use at least a 1/2 pack of cardstock, especially the jumbo-sized flowers. Each petal is basically one sheet of cardstock.

Before I started cutting, I created my own petal template by hand drawing a petal then cutting them out by hand. A Silhouette or Scan-N-Cut, would also be helpful. You could probably size a petal to cut for whatever size flower you wanted to create.

Jumbo Paper Flower Tips

To assemble the flowers, I started with a huge dollop of Hot Glue on the Stampin’ Up! Silicone mat and placed the first petal in the dollop. The second petal overlaps the first petal and is attached with hot glue. Then I attached each additional petal in the same manner.

As petals are added to the center, I used slightly smaller petals. I also tried to fill in any “gaps” to help create a fuller looking flower. In the end, there are about 3 to 4 layers within each Jumbo Paper Flower.

Oh, and it helps to burnish the petals and poms by using a bonefolder to break down the fibers of the cardstock. This makes it easier to curl and manipulate the petals to fit inside the flower. Also, I found it helped to do the same thing for the poms.

The center “pom” is two strips measuring 3″ x 11 1/2″. Each strip for the poms are snipped about 2″ to 2 1/2″ then you curl the strips to create the fringe of the pom. As I wrapped the strips into a tight circle, I also added some hot glue to help hold it together.

Hot Glue is your friend for this project. You’ll need a LOT! I also found that it worked best to use a high-temperature hot gun.

Project #2 – Party Banner Home Decor

This is a fun project that isn’t necessarily a long-term Home Decor piece but I think of it as Home Decor as its used for decorations. I put together this fun banner for my niece’s High School Graduation party.

She decided that she wanted a Build-Your-Own Taco Party. Since I did decorations for her sisters’ graduation from two years ago, I offered to also do decorations for Kamryn.

The banner was a hit at the party and so were the JUMBO flowers!

Oh, did I forget to mention that I traveled 14 hours with 3 of the JUMBO flowers from North Carolina to Indiana? Yes, I used some of the flowers for Kamryn’s party as well. Everyone loved the flowers that coordinated perfectly with the banner.

It was an interesting journey getting the flowers to Indiana with the SUV packed full. Every time my husband would open the back of the SUV, I would panic and remind him to be careful of the flowers.  It was a relief when we arrived safely at my brothers’ home with the flowers intact with little to no damage.

Now… back to the banner!

I made the banner with the Triple Banner Punch. Each Poppy Parade Banner is 2″ x 5″. I stamped “Taco Bout A Party” on Whisper White using the Letters for You Stamp Set then die cut the letters with the Large Letters Framelits. The colors I used are Poppy Parade, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green and Pineapple Punch.

On each circle, I stamped a background using the Birthday Backgrounds Stamp Set. Next, I attached the letters with dimensionals on circles die cut with the Layering Circles Framelits. Then, as I assembled the banner, I adhered the circle to the banner with dimensionals. Glue Dots are my adhesive of choice that I used to attach the Pearlized Doilies to the backside of the banner. Finally, I punched two (2) holes at the top of each banner. Then wove 1/8″ Grosgrain Pineapple Punch Ribbon through each of the holes.

And, here is the graduate! We are so proud of Kamryn for graduating Summa Cum Laud. She is excited to attend the University of Indianapolis. Kamryn is planning to earn a Bachelor of Science in Physics as well as doing Army ROTC (she hopes to be a Blackhawk Pilot).

Shout out to a fellow demonstrator!

Oh, and BIG a shout out and THANK YOU to this awesome Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in Indiana. You see, when I arrived at my brother’s home, much to my dismay, I discovered that I had miscounted the number of banners I had punched and was short.

What to do? I quickly got on the computer to look for a local Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator that had the Poppy Parade Cardstock that I needed. Finally, after lots of searching, I found  Linda Funnell. She was a life saver! Linda totally rocks.

We had a fun time chatting at her house as I cut what I needed. I’m really looking forward to seeing Linda again (and now I know of an awesome Demonstrator in the South Bend area that I could get together with for some crafty fun.)
