Welcome back to the Scrapbook Sunday Blog Hop featuring the Falling Flowers Stamp Set along with the NEW 2018-2020 In Colors. I have a fun, bright floral themed scrapbook page for you this month. The scrapbook page I’ve created honors three women and teachers that have played key roles in my son’s early development. Caleb definitely loved each of these wonderful teachers.  

Do you still struggle with the concept of white space and using it on your scrapbook pages? This month’s page reinforces the use of White Space on a scrapbook page. I’ll share a few additional tips and talk more about white space. So, if you continue to struggle to use White Space, keep reading! Remember, White space helps create IMPACT on your scrapbook pages.

Does White Space scare you? When designing, you do not need to be afraid of white space. Here are some good tips to keep in mind to help you utilize white space!

• White Space, also known as negative space, is the space the uninterrupted space surrounding the other design elements.
• Think of White Space as your overall canvas!
• The canvas equals and is your background.
• To make your design stand out, keep in mind that the background is what holds the elements of your design together.
• Remember… focus on creating balance between your design elements and the negative space around your elements.
• A scrapbook page is about visual communication and white space can improve that visual communication experience.

Falling Flowers Scrapbook Page: Utilizing White Space!

The focal point of this months Scrapbook Sunday layout is Caleb with his Pre-K Teacher and the Teacher Assistants. I wanted the majority of the elements to surround the photos of Caleb with his teachers to create drama.

Color also plays a significant role in this months scrapbook page. Part of the dramatic effect I was going for included using the NEW 2018-2019 In Colors which fall beautifully within the Primary Colors.

Why these colors? Well, I’m scrapbooking Caleb’s Pre-K teachers and using primary colors just fits the theme of the photos. The primary colors also create drama against the overall white canvas that I’m using as the backdrop to this scrapbook page.  Vibrant colors standout and POP!

Photo Placement and Utilizing White Space

I’ve strategically placed all three photos next to each other against a Blueberry Bushel backdrop layer against the In-Color Designer Series Paper. The Call Me Clover with the Blueberry Bushel then touches of Pineapple Punch and Lovely Lipstick jumps off the page.

Did you notice that I’ve also given your eye a resting place? In a previous article, I talk about giving yourself a “resting spot” or a starting point for the layout. I’ve clustered three photos together then added the journaling.  The photos are also framed by two cluster of flowers from the Falling Flowers Stamp Set and coordinating May Flowers Framelits. The White Perfect Accents also help add to the direction of your eyes as you start with the cluster and take in the full page. The journaling is printed on vellum cardstock. The font I’m using is American Typewriter set at 10 (on a Mac). When journaling, I usually write several versions then choose the one that fits the space or combine the journaling until I have something I like that fits the space. 

SunnyGirlScraps Tips and Tricks:

• Texture… This month I’ve created a light watercolor wash in a few key spaces creating a “triangle” which helps draw the eye to different elements of the page. This follows the Rule of Thirds as well.
• Bold Colors! I’ve utilized the bold colors to help create emotion and to trigger memories from Pre-K. 
• Oops?!?! What? No title! I meant to add a title but then forgot only to realize that this page doesn’t absolutely NEED a title. I’ve included the names of each teacher then talk about them in the journaling. By leaving off the main title, I feel the names pop and become elements of the title.

Falling Flowers Scrapbook Page Details:

• I am using 12×12 Whisper White cardstock.
• The Call Me Clover 2018-2020! In Color Designer Series Paper is the starting point for the scrapbook page.
• Using Call Me Clover, I’ve added a light watercolor wash behind opposite corners of the Designer Series Paper and the upper left corner of the scrapbook page.
• Each die cut image is stamped with a 2018-2020 Stampin’ Up! In Color on its coordinating card stock then die cut with the May Flowers Framelits.
• The journaling is printed on Vellum, is adhered to the page by gluing an edge under the Designer Series Paper.
• I’ve stamped each teacher’s name with Lovely Lipstick using the Labeler Alphabet then hand cut.
• Finally, I added the White Perfect Accents to the scrapbook page.
